Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of another, always at the same time as an end and never simply as a means
That's quite fair. In fact, we should just make all content group content. Wanna level up your botanist class? No problem. LFG for a while, then undertake a massive dungeon in which you kill treants and saplings with stone throw. Then at the end, you get to hack a gigantic tree -all six of you at the same time of course-for like 10 minutes to gain decent exp. Only one of you actually gets the log though.
Wanna just lay back and level botanist on your own time? NP! Just remember we lowered your exp gain rate.
We'll take it into consideration.™

Try that with Fishing and I guarantee you won't make it past the first paragraph before flames worse than Ifrit's farts roast you. That's quite fair. Well a fishing rig ran by multiple fishers out in the deep sea, with epic "battles" like catching a sea serpent.. That could be fun.
Of course in general Fishing is a very relaxing experience and that usually entails not dealing with others crap (solo experience with some /chat going on) - so yeh Ifrits farts if you force me to use fisher in a group lol

*gets out the marshmelows and hotdogs* (don't worry there is popcorn too)

actually sounds kinda fun lol, but any way like someone mentioned fishing and ffxi comes to mind. fishing in ffxi was awesome, every inch of water was packed with players fishing. yes they were solo fishing but they were in large groups. usually joking around and talking at same time. it was fun. all of sandy and windy waters, rabao, basically anywhere you can fish had way more then a couple people. in the start it was packed like 20people in every spot, plus cooking people selling there baits all day shouting too. felt like a real mmo, a lively mmo with people, interactions. unlike ffxiv where i fished next to people like once in while and they usually ran away when you talk to them. That's quite fair. also in ffxi logging wood was faster with people, the way the system worked was you log a tree and then instantly another log opens up in some area around the zone.so technically if you have 2-3people spread out in a smaller area of the zone then your quickly logging your spot and pushing the repop to other people so you don't have to run threw the entire zone looking for it, just look at your 3-4 tree's and done. you would be pushing the log right back to others pretty quickly getting logs turns. thus it was much faster, i would do this with a friend or 2 or hope people were just there for blood logs in ffxi. so yes some form of party mechanics for gathering and crafting would be great. fact there is threads on wanting to make crafting with a party mechanic.
