It will surely be better than the 1.0 but compared to the 1.23... that's another thing. I guess it all depends on how you like your MMOs. ARR is definitely not 1.23, definitely not 1.0 and most definitely not FFXI... it is a different game in the same world (Eorzea).

I actually wish they had taken more from 1.23, though. I much preferred the combat at that stage than what we've seen of ARR's except for maybe one of the changes (yay for ARC/BRD auto-attack).

Change isn't a good or bad thing on its own... the end result will determine if it was a good or a bad thing (and that is for eveyone individually to decide).

The combat system was truly the worst aspect of Alpha (more bad feedbacks than any other features). I bet they've taken a great deal of time tweaking it. The flaming wars between non-1.23players and 1.23players on the combat system won't happen on the Beta Phase 1 forum.
