I prefer to not use a microphone.

I miss the times in FFXI where we did handle to coordinate 50 ppl in Dynamis without the use of mumble/ts3/ventrillo...
These days u are forced to use it, even in Games where u go with 4-8 ppl because they cant handle that very few ppl without voice-chat...

I don't mind voicechat but chatting is more relaxing to me while voicechat tires me out fairly quick. Mainly because of people with a lot of background noise and changing volumes. When I'm on voicechat, I prefer to listen rather than talk, but I'm like that irl too, unless I'm on a rant :P

For new content, voicechat is nice to be able to tell people what to do quickly, but otherwise you don't really need it. I'm glad YoshiP doesn't want to implement an ingame solution, else voicechat would become mandatory.

I think voice chat is essential for end game things and getting to know who is behind the text you see in ls chat every day. Communication is the most important part of end game, without it and you end up having a sub-par experience at best. It just adds so much to the overall gaming experience weather its end game things or a small group of friends chatting. If i had to give up voice chat then i would rather just go back to playing single player games on consoles.

I've been in a HNMLS who used TeamSpeak to talk time ago and GOD I HATED IT. Because more often than not people would just give directives on the voice channel and totally forget the normal chat, while the rest of us who PREFER TO NOT USE A MICROPHONE saw people moving, doing stuff, starting a fight, and we had ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE.

So, thanks but no thanks, do NOT make this official please. I don't like using microphones and do not want to be forced to it because it's a game mechanic.

I'd vote against it. Voice chat really isn't necessary. It can be an OK extra tool, but I haven't came across any content such as leveling, missions, end game, etc., where I found myself saying this content could be enhanced if I was using voice chat. In most cases, I'd say its more of a sidegrade at best.

Mumble or GTFO. I really hate when the entire party is on mumble but one player. If you don't want to chat, that's fine, but please at least listen. (Sometimes) really important instructions can be missed otherwise.

...and as Vil says, our conversations get so random.

Never use it, don't ever intend to use it. Haven't had any problems playing though any game content without it.

I agree, it can enhance the experience, so long as you already have that level of friendship established. There are some linkshells that only do hardcore raiding, and don't really care for social interaction outside of that.

With my linkshell, I'm glad we can all be friendly and still do events. I remember specifically one night we were doing To Kill a Raven, and half my party was drunk/stoned, so obviously we weren't gonna win...but it was funny hearing the comments as we fought anyway. "My healing skillzzz are soooo awesome right nowwww" "Hey,I meant to run the other way to avoid his laser!"

And of course, inbetween failed runs, we synced firedancing like bawwses.

OMG, that night was so fun!
