My main LS avoided using mics, but another LS I was a part of for a while back around 1.19 was pretty big on using Mumble, soooo I guess I could go either way and am therefore refusing to vote!![]()

heck yeah, this makes gaming way more fun but only when it's with a purpose, such as coordinating events, just hopping on to chat for no reason can get awkward

I love voice chat. Typing in the middle of combat is awkward at best, and easy to miss. Voice chat allows much smoother communication. Also it's easier to appreciate who your companions are when you can hear them talk, I connect with my ls mates much easier if we can converse via voice chat.
I can certainly appreciate where Nix is coming from, but this isn't xbox live, I don't know anyone in my linkshell who uses the f-bomb for punctuation, and if I did, I'd probably not be interested in playing with them voice chat or no.
I use my mic almost al the time playing ffxiv and other mmos I play when I'm waiting on 2.0 to release. Actually I met my gf playing ffxi and chatting on Skypenow we moved in together
but that's a story for another time! I think using mics on ffxiv is more personal and let's you become closer to your ls members (wether or not you get to meet them eventually irl).
Empty space!!!

I prefer text chat when I'm not really doing anything in game. When my shell and I are doing an event though voice chat kind of feels like a must.

For events and learning new content sure.
Not any other time, I am usually in a constant state of semi-afk-ness. I prefer it if they just send me /tells and I will reply when I get back to the pc.

I'm not a fan.
Sure, it's great when you have nothing to do or you're doing something big (instance, primal).
But at times where I just wanna play the game and I'm not doing something with my Linkshell I'd rather just enjoy the calmness of the moment. All that (mostly unrelated) talk while I try to enjoy a game makes me feel uncomfortable. I'd rather chat on these moments.

If these forums had an actualy poll function I would be able to make a much more detailed informative poll >< guess I could of made a poll on a poll site n linked to it but too late now!

I personally don't like to be on voice chat outside of questing/events. I often like to listen to my music undisturbed and there's nothing more annoying to me than hearing random chatter on ventrilo or mumble while trying to enjoy Symphony No. 9. or something similar.
One shell I was in was nearly 100% chat only with communication, and only said things in the game if was really needed. It didn't really work out well. Tech you know the shell I speak of.
