New Limsa Lominsa BGM

Ah that makes sense. I thought he was employed for the job of the main score for FFXIV by SE so I wondered why he was "exchanged" but when he is a freelancer and has many other project then this may be a valid explaination.


Still, I'd love to have the old tunes hidden somewhere in-game. Like I said, not prominently, but like little gimmicks or references in random occasions.

When Soken gets a second he should remix/remaster the 1.0 tracks so that their heart remains but there isnt any inconsistency in style (ensure the songs are not too conflicted when played from one to the next).

Then we'd have like 15+mins of unique song for each zone.. lol

To be fair. That's actually pretty awesome. Though, I'm not sure it would go with the current ambiance.

It was pretty cool remix, just that it will never fit in FFXIV unless the Golden Saucer has a dance club :P (and that I think Soken could really tweak 1.0 songs to fit well with his 2.0 songs, at least most of them).

Is it just me or does there seem to be about 4 different pieces of music in there? different zones perhaps?

It should be pointed out that even though this video was labeled as "Limsa Lominsa", the description states that it's an "abridged collection" of beta BGM. That's why we hear the sort of unnatural fading. We're hearing snippets of 4-5 different tracks. This isn't exactly what we're gonna hear in-game.

That said, I do like the original Limsa theme. It's one of the best songs on the soundtrack (was one of Uematsu's favorites as well if I recall correctly), but to me it didn't sound like a "city" theme. It went fantastic with the trailer that you played when that dork from Sony first announced the game at E3 2009.

As far as the music in this YouTube thing goes, I gotta admit I was a little worried way back when all this started, and the game was just "Final Fantasy XIV 2.0". But all the new music I've heard for ARR and the 7th Umbral Era story have been awesome. Please tell Soken he rocks, and to keep it up!

Re-doing the music, especially the main cities, is a good move as it helps make 2.0 feel fresh. I could imagine a lot of people logging back into Ul'dah, hearing the same old music (no-matter what your opinion of it is) and thinking that they are right back in 1.0. Music is powerful that way.

I do hope to hear tracks such as 'Twilight in Thanalan' somewhere though, where it makes sense, even in a corner of a map. ^^

Ok, ok, joking aside I did check with Yoshi-P and the sound team about the future direction of FFXIV's music. They will be blending the old tracks with new ones to create the soundtrack for version 2.0.

already there in plan long time ago, 3/28/12 response... just donno how the "blending" works
