NA / EU / JP server=No transfer

As long as SE keeps my server as is (Located in Japan) and there isn't some sort of mass exodus to other servers I'll stay where I am.

On the other hand, SE really should dedicate a server to being "Global" regardless of where it's located, I want to play in a breathing world not one that kicks the bucket after "Prime time" because god forbid you either use the auto translate for it's purpose or find out that people outside your timezone actually speak english in large volume!

I said few post back that SE is indeed doing a Global world for everyone but there base in JP. Overall every world is Global you can join a JP,EU,NA it's not like other games that don't allow you to enter a world due to the fact you not in that area. But Yoshi-p did say he mark some worlds as Global but they still be base in JP servers.

It would be nice to know if current characters will be given the option to move to a new server at launch that is not designated for new characters. Many people may not end up on a server by default that is in their geographical region and it would be nice to know if we'll have the option of picking one as we're getting the option to make other tweaks to our characters.

So what did they first announce they were going to do, and then what did they end up doing?

Funny, the above could described just about any discussion on these forums.

what they originally said was they were going to allow the active players to go to the server of their choice if there was room in the server they wanted to join, but all players that were on break would be defaulted to a server with all inactive players. if they came back they would be allowed a chance to transfer to the server of their choice if that server had room otherwise they would be forced onto whatever server that had room. those players would be split from their friends/linkshells. the servers filled up super fast btw.

people complained that they would like their entire world to get merged with other existing worlds and then given an option to move away from that world. server a + server b/w an option to move away from that combined server to move to server c. this would allow the people that had friends that will be coming back on arr release to be on the same server as they were unless you decided to move away from that server.

se decided to go with the complete server merge instead of everyone having to manually decide which server they wanted to transfer to and splitting complete servers apart.

It seems absurd they would have given people a choice. That sounds like a complete mess. Sounds like they did the obvious sensible thing in the end.

As to the topic, it makes a lot more sense to me now that we don't have all the answers from SE yet, because they are waiting for information they obtain through the Beta tests.

I find it sad that I received an email from SE Support about being able to move my main character Altera from Sargatanas to Balmung. And they posted in the first email I got that it will be an option on my XIV account and would cost a fee to do so.

It is possible for you to transfer your character to a different server.

However, this is not something that we can do for you; you will have to do this yourself in your Square Enix Account Management. Simply log into your account, go to Services and Options>Select Service>Final Fantasy XIV>Options List. You will have the option to do a World Transfer there.

Please be aware that a World Transfer incurs a small fee. Please also be aware that this action will only be possible once Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is released.


Then I was told this was not possible, but might be in the future.

And 3rd mail stated it never had the option in XIV and might never have.

If they dont allow us to move our characters around to servers that current Legacy characters are on. I will be disappointed to need to drop my Altera and all the effort and stuff I have gathered to start as a LVL 1 on Balmung just to join my friends there

We have no information at this stage whether the service will be available in the future, however it has never been available on FINAL FANTASY XIV.

I agree with Altera here, i am deeply disapointed about this. Seeing it would be ALOT easier for all of us to transfer realm and not having to start over on EVERYTHING we done in 1.0 wich is sad if we do. Since i want to play with friends from other servers. But it does not make it easier when SE cant even impliment paid character transfer. Like WoW,SWTOR,AION,GW2. So on have.. and it makes me sad since i really REALLY love FF XIV.

Please link to the dev post where this was stated. I think it is a misunderstanding of a portion of the playerbase. As I understand it, all that was stated is basically this:

1. there will be new servers
2. there will be regional servers
3. existing characters cannot transfer to new servers

Points 1 and 2 are not neccessarily related, leaving the possibility that some existing worlds will be moved from Japan to other regions.

That would royally piss off Japanese players and therefore they would never do it. Lack of dev post does not trump common sense >.>

Tout d'abord, j'aimerais m'excuser pour le délai de ma réponse et j'espère que mon message pourra vous rassurer.

Comme expliqué précédemment, de nouveaux serveurs seront disponibles pour les nouveaux joueurs, et ces serveurs seront reservés aux nouveaux personnages seulement.
Cependant, les joueurs « Legacy » ne seront pas pour autant contraint de rester sur des serveurs localisés au Japon et pourrons jouer sur un autre serveur, plus proche de chez eux.

Malheureusement, je ne peux fournir tous les détails concernant la mise en place des serveurs, mais d'avantage d'informations seront communiquées dès que possible.

Thanks. Think I should drop by the french forums every now and then too, I guess.

I kind of take that as both good and sad news, since I had hoped we'd at least have some time to see if if would be truly necessary to migrate to regional servers. Oh well... Personally, I find it kind of pointless still, but since everyone will be jumping ship in the end, I guess I'll have to do it eventually as well... :/
