Like that thread necro'ed from 2011. I understand it though, Boredom. Its like the days leading up to your birthday when you were a kid, the closer it got the more anticipation you had for what you would get and how much fun it would be and what would happen, then the day gets here and could never have lead up to your expectations fully. Or maybe that was just me.

I've learned to not have as many expectations and just let things unfold, "Whatever will be, will be." I offer suggestions and feedback but ultimately we will get what they give us. I'm willing to accept that. If its something i will enjoy, i will play it, if i dont like it, i'll move on.

Hulan mentioned WoW death and I wanted to add to it a little bit.

I dont think it was a perfect solution but not a poor implementation compared to what I've seen before-

In FFXIV if you died and no one was around to raise you (like your party wiped) you have to run through the camp through terrain and monsters, dissuading parties to continue trying.

In WoW if you died you could revive at the spirit with heightened punishment or for less punishment you could go back to your body with little resistance of terrain and none from monsters, encouraging you to try again.

Death punishment is a tight balancing act, if you make it too hard no one is going to do anything more then what works - limiting gameplay and fun. If you make it too easy no one is going to do anything but what is most efficient, limiting gameplay and fun.

While I dont think WoW's system is perfect I'd have to admit it was pretty brilliant to design a system that encouraged you to try and not give up.

Strawman arguments are course on par on these forums.

I know kinda like completely failing to address people's posts just to continue to prove that a problem exists when it doesn't.

The current system of repairs is just fine. There's no reason to change it at all.

In fact, thanks to the gil wipe (*cough*) I mean adjustment. Making repairs suddenly might actually be more painful than before.

Clearly you didn't add enough milk to your oatmeal.

I think everyone has given up on this thread.... Too bad, I quite liked my idea, but I'm not going to waste forum space on another thread.

I understand where you are coming from but first of all, I think one of the elements of exp loss upon death was that it invited PK-ing on a level that kept the GMs busy for several days straight. Sheesh, Garlaige Citadel once got shut down for almost a whole day because some higher levels decided to PK everyone in sight all because they were competing for AF chests.

Also it must be said that back in 2004, leveling in FFXI was very difficult for the lower levels due to the exp loss penalty from dying... yes it made you aware of your mistakes and yes it honed your concentration in becoming a better player. But these days, there are several more efficient ways to teach people how to become better... and now voice chat has made that even easier.

The goal of any new MMO is to prevent new players from becoming frustrated with advancement... and in higher levels some jobs in FFXI actually had strategies required you to die often (kiting, tanking, sacrifice or suicide pulls, etc). So yeah, having experienced all that, I do NOT like that deleveling sound. Trust me, I lost enough exp to know that sound and hated it...I was a tank and COR puller for a good while back in FFXI. Need I say more?

So yeah... FFXI exp loss elements should stay right where they are... in Vanadiel
Excellent post. Couldn't have said it better.

I am a little indifferent to the idea. It's something like having to run back as a ghost in WoW. The only thing I don't like about both of them is people don't complete them at the same time. In the case of WoW some people get lost or head the wrong direction on auto run. The raid ends up waiting for stragglers.

At least your idea is different then WoW. If you post as new thread it would get a lot more attention. I doubt anyone wants to continue reading this thread, except those who really want or appall the exp loss/deleveling system.
