I don't see how ARR is competing with TESO, when they seem to have an entirely different appeal and different audiences with little crossover.

I thought we owe it all to D&D, but oh well.

Pretty much, and FFXIV has a whole customer base that TESO doesn't, the PS3 players. Before the original FFXIV came out, the most appealing thing about it to people was the fact that they could play it on a console, because not everyone has a PC that runs it, or runs it at a decent spec. Then again, it took an above average PC to run FFXIV at a playable state, while developers claim that you could run ARR on a low end PC. I do believe overall the amount of PS3 players will be very high and console players are an audience that TESO cannot get.

Then again, TESO isn't really aiming for them, which kind of goes back to my different audience statement. I would honestly consider DC Universe Online a competitor to FFXIV more than TESO, but that is just my opinion. I think the games TESO will be competing against will be WoW and GW2.

If we are to talk about who started video game RPG's, Wizardry had a large hand in that one. Dragon Quest influenced from that, then Final Fantasy influenced from Dragon Quest. I can't say exactly where WRPG's molded from, because you don't really see much JRPG elements in one. D&D ultimately started RPG's as a whole, but the console game that set WRPG's off is a bit of a mystery to me, maybe Wizardry!

Should rename this title to "TESO wishes it was the biggest rival for ARR."
I am calling here, you can see it first..
I thought they didn't even allow threads like this. I wish they wouldn't.
I feel like there's likely people working on TESO, coming to these forums, trying to steal fire from a game, they know they will never be anywhere near as good as.
Have fun swinging away, in the standard oblivion style of gameplay.. That will get old and fast..
    Rival? Hardly..
More like a thorn in the foot, that is a slight annoyance, until the lion realizes it will just go away.
This is one of those threads that would of just died, if the fan boys wouldn't keep reviving it.. Go to your precious TESO forums, if you want to keep talking about this soon to be failed game..

The elder scrolls , while i enjoyed skyrim for a little, aren't really up my alley when it come to setting and gameplay

the bigger problem i see with TESO would be their notorious lack of quality control and debugging, skyrim was such a buginfested mess when it launched, many of those game breaking, others even worse (corrupting gamer profiles on xbox360 and so on), if i hadn't played it on pc with the debug console i would have been forced to start from scratch no less the seven times.

as mean as it sounds, if they are not able to properly quality test and debug a single player game, i am scared to see what a mess an MMO with that quality standards would be at launch

ARR is the only MMO i am interested in right now anyway^^

Bethesda is working closely with Zenimax Online - but the people at Bethesda are not the people who are working on TESO.

Bethesda programming problems shouldnt be applied to Zenimax Online (who are employing quite a few veteran MMO workers).

(On Bethesda.. there are still some bugs left in Skyrim by Bethesda.. lol)

Like others said i see TESO out doing FFXIV at release but within 2-6months there subs would drop. If they don't release patch and more things to do it going to fail. Same goes for FFXIV but by the look of it ffxiv ARR going to have a lot to do from the start and i think that keep people hook to the next patch,.

Sidenote i also see TESO having shit load of issue at release imo

Well actually I think TESO is targeting console players, because keep in mind that the vast majority of TES fan are console gamers. I'd bet a very small part of the population actually played the PC version/mods. Therefore, I'd imagine most of the people cuirrently excited about TESO are those who experienced it originally on the console. So if Zenimax (or Bethesda since there apparently helping with the project) is able to provide quality controller support, it may indeed attract those millions of Xbox TES fans, especially since it's alot easier to get a decent gaming rig these days.

Then we should see a 360 version, yes? Best way to appeal to a console player is to make an actual console port. FFXIV already wins by default there unless TESO makes a console version of their game, which looks like no so far. I am doubting TESO is appealing to console players beyond the fact that they might like MMO's on PC also. Which in one aspect may be good if Bethesda can advertise it right.

well while they are aiming different styles of gameplay it can aim at the same audience.

i myself enjoy playing MMorpgs.. i enjoyed playing Final Fantasy and also playing TES. are players really all like "im just enjoying this and that?" i dont think so. they compete each other because they are 2 big upcoming MMorpgs.

its not all about black and white. its in between of that.
