Listen I'm sorry I didn't want this to end up being just another "race thread", just wanted to kno ppl's feelings if this was snuck in as a head/tail option. Basically just trying to find a middle ground because I don't want to see Viera as a new race AND they said it wouldn't be. "Nothing at all" seems to be the popular vote here, no biggie.

No probs Majoga. Cookies for trying, but SE shouldn't have had us vote then backpeddle with excuses. Why even bother asking us in the first place?

I think the biggest problem was them using Viera as an "example", ppl saw Viera and that was the end of it. Personally I'd rather see something completely new like as far as going into Alien-unique looking or even a Mechanical AI type of race. What I think SE should really do is come up with concept art and then have us vote, then possibly use the left overs as unique NMs or new Beastmen tribes.

I mentioned earlier that Yoshi wanted to stick to FF lore, so is planning on adding a race from a previous game.

Now this is my personal and honest opinion, but I feel that with the 5 races we have right now is good enough.

When talking about adding Viera, understand that different FF's have different characters/races through out them.
IX had the rats, XI had the cats, XII had the rabbits, etc. Sticking to the principle should not* allow Viera into Hydaelyn.

Additionally, completely imo, I don't think having a beasty race like the Bangaa is appropriate to be walking the realm with the other 5 human-like races. I'm not really against having them, just seems odd at thought.

Maybe the Padjal race would be better? They are in fact in the game anyway.

When Padjal was proposed, so many people whined that they were basically Hyurs with horn. Also, apparently, players have a mysticism about the Padjal which they feel would be degraded if we could run around as that race. In a way I agree, in another sense if we have to get another race I'd prefer it be one that's already a part of the game's lore.

If I recall correctly the dev team said no new races at the initial release of FFXIV:ARR, although there is definitely a possibility for more races with the coming expansions.

If anyone didnt already know, Viera are indeed a race that is specific to Final Fantasy and no other form of media.


Some of you are speaking of a "beastman" race, of which there are plenty already. They would have to rewrite a lot of the games story and its mechanics to allow players to play as a beastman, and for it to actually make any sense within the given story line.

Even though I think a Viera addition would be awesome, because the more Final Fantasy a Final Fantasy is (.....) the more I enjoy it, I'm not sure how many people would want to role play as a male deriving from a bunny race.

I think Yoshi already said "No Viera!" because the male versions would be strange/difficult to do.

I don't remember that? He did say in one of his live letters that the fan base for Viera was large and that they will consider it but far in the future...

I think they should be left out. The game isn't lacking in anthropomorphic creatures or beautiful women. Personally once the excitement from Roegadames has died down, I'd like to see a less human race with both genders. Something like the Bangaa. Maybe a beast tribe converted to worshipping the Twelve.

As for lore, if anyone's played FFXII: Revenant Wings, there's a shunned Viera tribe with short ears. I don't know that they're quite cats, but they're pretty close.

Seems very lazy. Veira are very tall and slender, their frame would better fit an unfed elezen then a miqo'te.
