NA / EU / JP server=No transfer

There is one more thing that is bugin me with the "transfer or migrate your character later".Its about free company.I guess that those guild or company are gonna work like Linkshell. That means if you move to a new server with your friends, you will have to restart your free company. Im not really sure on how Free company are gonna work, but if there some sort of reward for doing stuff with that guild and the reward are getting better the more quest you do with this company. The idea of merging later instead of at ARR launch might be disapointing us if we are stuck on JP server.

This to me is why it's important that we can move very soon after the release. If we know we can move after a week we just need to hold off on things like FC for a short while. If there is no date or something like a few months from release then SE will have screwed up big time.

Yes ragnarock might end-up EU at ARR launch, so that means we, NA, will have to wait if we want to merge somewhere else.and i dont really thinks that there is LOT of NA and JP on Ragna. i think its more like 70% EU 20%NA and 10% JP-AUS. We usely gets bored at NA play time, specially West Cost. Even Uldha was desert around that time.

If Ragnarok is set as EU server for ARR it might be intresting for a new players from europ to join this already based EU community, but i doubt to see new NA players joining Ragnarok.

I agree and I think that is a huge downside to having regional servers. I'll miss getting up early on Sunday mornings and finding plenty of NA players still up and playing and some JP to keep me company as well.

you think ragnarok will become EU server? you think japanese characters on ragnarok will enjoy that?

I don't think it will be although it would make sense to me since I do believe the majority of the players are from the EU and SE actually promoted it as the EU server during the merge. If they were planning on putting it in Japan then that was really stupid. I realize they probably didn't think ahead to this situation but now that we are in the sitatuion we are, it does make sense.

Personally I think the latency argument is mostly irrelevant and regional servers are therefore a bad idea since it will fragment the player base but the regional servers are here whether I like it or not so just throwing in my 2 euro cents.

well from reading so far i see 3 scenarios in which they have confirmed, but i still have the same 4th scenario that they have yet to confirm/deny.

scenario 1. my existing char is Darkstar Poet that char can not go to servers designated as "new player only servers" even if it's a regional based server.

scenario 2. i make a new char Darkstar Poet1 and then i can choose to go to a new player only server, an existing player server(if there's room), or a regional server.

scenario 3. someone buys the game and starts fresh and has never played the game at all. they can go to a new player only server, existing player server(if there is room), or a regional server.

scenario 4. this is the one people are asking about that keeps going unanswered. using my original char Darkstar Poet, that is an active player, is there going to be any server that is a regional server that i can move that char to or are all of the servers for the old chars going to still be global servers located in japan?

that's all i see people asking about. they want to know if there will be a server that the chars they have been playing with for the last 2 years can move to that will be a regional server. this is the question i would like to have answered so we won't have any surprises right at release and give the game and company another black eye that se cannot afford.

There are at least 2 informations missing at this point for me to get angry at this issue.

- Regional servers? Are they still planned?
People talk about Ragnarok but what about the others. Figure a JP player stuck on a NA server. Latency might not be an issue, but it also can be. The servers aren't stress-tested yet so it's hard to say if latency will be (or not) an issue. Yoshi-P said in a past letter that we should choose a server close to us to avoid any latency. Taking away that choice is certainly a concern for me.

- How long until the Transfer system is implemented?
Because the Grand Companies will not be transferable (just like Linkshells weren't), the Transfer system needs to be in place quickly because the GC will be an important part of the game. Returning players(not just Legacy) not being able to go to new worlds created for the new players is totally acceptable and understandable but let those who wants to move do it as soon as they can.

Until I get answers to those 2 questions, I can't really be mad at SE but, like others, I am pointing out that I am truly concerned by these issues.

Edit: Bayohne's post never answered the question about old players being able to move and only stated that old players won't be able to move to restricted "new players only" servers for a certain amount of time.

We expect the beta to determine if many players will return to the game (former players, who already have a character assigned to an existing World). Future decisions will be made ​​based on these figures. It is possible that the Ten Worlds today are no longer sufficient to accommodate all the players, which will influence our future decisions.

Pretty simple actually...

- There is a heated debate
- SE decides what they do
- One side is angry at the decision... yells and shout...
- One side is happy and post some "stfu go play something else if you don't like it" to all negative comments
- SE changes their mind to accomodate both sides at the last minute
- Most people are confused by the way they are doing it
- Everybody whines about how bad they did the transfer (even though they tried to accomodate everyone)

here something i read on the french forum.It's not a question about lag but economy. Your server turn EU and your NA, then so sorry your stuck with it.

"Our goal with the implementation of dedicated servers for new players is to create a world where the economy has no history. Therefore, players "Legacy" will not receive an option to transfer their characters "v1" to these servers from the release of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn.

New players will be able to create new characters on the servers of players "Legacy" to join them. This option will be available as long as the maximum server population will not be reached. Similarly, players "Legacy" will create a new character on dedicated servers to new players.

We are not yet able to confirm what stage during beta your characters will be permanently associated with the servers on which you are. We will share information once the schedule is finalized."

The portion you quoted is specifically referring to the fresh "New Player" servers that we plan to introduce and that only fresh starting new characters will be able to join (whether that's a completely new player, or a brand new character of a returning player) and this restriction will be in place for a specific period of time (not yet finalized).

It goes on to say that new players will be able to join existing/established worlds as long as there is room on the world, but that old, returning players cannot move to the brand-new "new player" worlds.

Hopefully that clears it up!

First, the old servers are gone...while it might be true that servers might in fact carry, the old names, not a single one of us is still on those servers. Those servers effectively 'died' when FFXIV 1.0 did. Therefore, while they might come out and say things such as Ridill=JA veteran characters and Sargantas=NA veteran characters, people who use to be on those servers aren't in fact, locked into those servers.

Instead, based on the french forum post that Mikoto found, it appears that we can only get 'locked' to a server sometime during beta or even at ARR official launch. So for right now, just plan on having a 'server' transfer with your friends and ls's...and DON'T plan on having an automatic spot reserved on the world your character currently resides on...cause seriously, that world was blown up. I saw it.

One of the major cons about being stuck on a JP sever at launch is. Say if the old servers are labeled JP region. We won't be getting many new NA or EU players because they would be more likely to pick the ones labeled NA or EU. However we would get a influx of JP players new people trying out ARR on PS3 and PC as well.

If I want to build a NA linkshell to play the game with I will have very few new people to invite, and I will start to feel like the minority.

One of the main reasons I wouldn't want to be stuck on JP server at launch. Most likly would have an unfavorable experience until the open up transfers to NA servers. At that point they will probably want to charge me $25 to transfer since that's the FFXI transfer cost.
