I'd rather just have the game span all my monitors allowing me to put the map away when I want to.

I agree with this. However I'd like to have the map popup in it's own window so that it's placeable. Which I believe ARR will have. With the option of setting the option to full screen.

You can almost do exactly what the OP is suggesting. Except your map would be covering half of your POV. but with popup windows you could place them where you wanted Map on top, Character information on bottom. That way when you close them they will pop up in the last place you placed them.

The thing about windows like character screen though is their contents are laid out in a specific way. So allowing use to resize the window won't be much good because the contents would not resize or move well to accommodate the new window size.

They could setup the screen sort of like how the windows phone and its smart glass interface works, where it resizes them in perportion to the original, have them snap into place(only seen commercials and videos on this, so i could work differently than this). I think they are already have the system in place for how they are allowing you to customize your UI anyways. just a matter of using what they already have to accommodate the second monitor screen.
