[dev1034] What ARE companies, though?

It seems there is one quest directly related to each company in each city. They all involve running around and basically recruiting people (which i kinda liked, gave a lot of info). Beyond that, i don't believe anything else company related was released... And to avalonstormm, i really agree with you that discovering things like that is one of the best parts of something new. Its the same reason i try to learn as little about some games before i buy them XD (which is why birth by sleep blew my mind).

However... i think the reason that so few are seeing it that way at this point, is just because the game started, and is still in such a state, that people NEED to know about something that can keep them interested. Otherwise, that long wait with no information, no matter how great the content may end up, is just not worth it. I'm personally confused as to how they could've had this company system in mind since alpha, but are just now even giving any sign of its actual existence.

Now i'm all for this game, i truly can't wait to see how amazing it can end up, and i plan to wait it out and enjoy it as much i can until it is really polished off. But these big shrouded mysteries looming around with no real content actually being added over time besides constant fixes, gets annoying... Tanaka-san gave a large outline of where the game was going before he had to step down, it would at least be reassuring to be told if all of those things (like the parts referring to company) are still gonna happen, if not I'd like to have Yoshida-san's own content outline.

Unveiling and discovering the aspects of companies would be great... but if that's how it HAS to be, i would really appreciate at least a approximate release date, instead of a constant "in the near future". If that can't be done or it'll come very far in the future... then just give us some interesting teasers, what are these company buildings? boats? what exactly is something we can do? anything is better than silence :/

Good point, but I think players need to consider the recent mishap at Japan, many things were pushed back as stated by YoshiP, they are doing their best, but I think the way the saw it and he has stated this as well in his posts: keep the quick updates/fixes happening and build the larger picture content in stages. They are doing pretty well considering all the negative stuffs that happened to SE in general with respect to FFXIV. Sure Company thing was not much at the moment, but we did get new contents such as new NMs, I know new NMs might not sound much but its still something.

All I am saying is that for those players that are slowly reaching the end of the rope for this game, please don't give up, I have put a huge FAITH on YoshiP and his team, it would be nice to see more players to keep supporting them. I truly believe that they are doing their best with the current cards that were dealt to them, they are still trying to pickup the pieces from where the first dev team left off. Its a huge task and I know its taking slow..but regardless..I will be an active player..I really truly believe in SE and how they are trying to reach to their fans as far as they can.

Not every game/feature is spawned because of WoW. I really wish people would stop tossing WoW around so much. It's not the only MMO on the market and it certainly wasn't the first to define everything for the genre.

Let's just wait and see what Grand Companies are actually like first.

The lack of info only means two thins.

-The devs still are not done with the design.(they could still let us know more about it)
-They want to make it a "surprise"(stupid at this point)
-Is nothing new or innovative so they rather keep the hype building until is released.
-They think we will patiently till the end of times, because the game is free, so there is not a need to say anything until 1 day before release

There is absolutely not 1 reason why they can not show more info of the actual role the companies play in ffxiv, outside of the 4 i posted.If you think of a different reason why we haven't gotten any info , ill like to hear it .

What is ironic is that Yoshi-P said that they held back releasing info several weeks ago because they didn't want to release the Company stuff with nothing to do. Then when they release the info, there is no information about what it actually is, what they do, or the players role in it.

Plenty of stuff WoW stole from FFXI. But most people that weren't playing XI prior to the release of WoW wouldn't pick up on that. Your observation is pretty dead on.

We dont have that info right now. All we have is lore and story.Companies building hype and is the last shot for me on this game to succed.

You guys definitely have no life. Not that I do but I sort of do at least but you guys must play FFXIV 24/7 with nothing else to do to which point you are so damn impatient when it comes to everything. The devs said that the Companies page will be upgraded when companies are release or are closer to release - I would bank on all the juicy info within a month....relaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaax.
