That's the thing. It all turned into sexually atractive or overly cute characters. Instead of... you know... interesting plots... action... character development! The sort of things that made anime... well, anime. It's what set it apart from cartoons pretty much.

Tons of other series that followed it turned into the same. It's been almost nothing but moe since that boom started. It's just like how cartoons all turned into incredibly retarded or over-exaggerated situations after Spongebob. All you see nowadays is in some way a derivative of it. :/
