I'm one of those people who likes to explore, but I don't have a problem with being able to warp to the camps no matter the zone. You have to go there yourself before you can warp there anyway. In 1.0 the only times I used a lot of anima were GC quests before I got a chocobo (becasue, for me, having to run back and forth between the areas/cities got annoying after a while) and "Living on a Prayer". The rest of the time I'd go between places by chocobo if I was solo only using anima when I was with other people so that they wouldn't have to wait around. I don't personally see being able return to a place you've already been to as a bad thing even if it's an out-of-the-way zone. It's not like you'll be able to warp to anywhere you want in the zone. You still need to run or chocobo from the crystal to the surrounding areas and from what I've seen from videos and such of the alpha the only quest/leve camps that have a crystal are the ones we already had with other camps that you have to run/choco to anytime you go there. Sure a lot of people will get those crystals by having someone else warp them (they may have removed this for all we know), but it won't take away from my enjoyment of getting to the crystals myself.
While I don't necessarily care about the instant teleports, I think one teleport point for zone is more than enough. I love the idea of different transportation ideas like a train or better ferries. One thing I hated about the ferries (or whatever they were called) in XIV was that they were instant. I missed the ferries of FFXI where you actually sat through the voyage, had the opportunity to fish or sometimes get attacked by pirates, in other zones there were even NM's that only popped on boat rides. It was flavor that added to the world that I enjoyed. Most of the people here will probably know my stance but:
Hate every zone instant teleporting - that is just calling for world size death.
I'm not looking 30 min travel times, but I do think that a reasonable 2-10 min transportation time is needed in most areas.
Make ----some----- instant transport options like home pointing but then also make many awesome natural transportations like train, caravan, airship, shoopuf, boats and rafts, and much more - we've seen SE very unique transpotation ideas in the past.. they should flourish and network the world so its sized and scaled but yet not frustrating to travel upon.
World instant teleporting reeks to me as a dungeon runner, which is no t the feeling I want from an mmoRPG I hope to call second*home.
*Dont forget your first 'irl' homes guys :P
Guess you never waited an hr to go to whitegate in XI. Worst boat ride/wait ever. I had tele for every zone in XI and it did not take away from anything. I still had to walk plenty far or choco plenty far once I took my tele and same thing happened in 1.0 I could tele to a spot and still have to walk a good distance. While I don't necessarily care about the instant teleports, I think one teleport point for zone is more than enough. Personally I'm of the opinion that if we are going to hand out free warps like candy, then give each region a single central warp point and your on your own from there.
Well isn't the current teleport system a nice balance? You can teleport to which town you want to go but it cost anima, which take forever to regenerate by itself. The taught people to be careful on how you spend it and allowed more use of air ship and chocobo. I know I alway used air ship to travel between cities instead of teleport, and walked to the camp if it was relatively close. They even had an endgame event to regenerate anima quickly called hamlet. Having it as an endgame event allowed players to play most of the game before getting easy anima. You even needed a knowledgable party and good planning to get the 100 anima run. Now I do think we should have 1 free teleport area world in the center of each area like we have now. One in Mor thoma and coerthas because there is now air ship to get to them so you'll almost "need" to teleport there. The one high lvl areas like camp blue fog and the like in the center of each area would be nice to be free for those with no anima due to poor management or some other reason so it wouldn't be so harsh for the players...You're likely right. Anyone that's played FFXI can likely recall waiting 20-25 minutes for a new party member to arrive because they have to actually traverse deserts, plains and caverns to reach the location of everyone else. Even with teleport, the travel made certain aspects a plain bitch. At the same time, instant travel means you don't ever really get to see much of anything besides that near where you're going. Surely there can be a balance between the two such that there's journeying and times where quick travel is appealing too.

I just want them to learn that travel can be fun too. It doesn't have to be monotonous boredom.
They should incorporate mount skill levels, based on riding time and other things mounts may be capable of.
That would encourage people to want to skill up their mounts and ride more.
Would make it feel not like a total waste of time, just traversing hours of territory.
Like how chocobos could dig was neat.. A bit shallow imo but it was a start.
A mount should feel like your companion and letting them skill up, might help create that bond.
I would love to see mounted combat.. Mount attacks and special abilities as well.
Something more than just a back to ride on.
There are so many possibilities for those who'd try to think of them.
I disagree. Having come back to XI I am constantly reminded just how big and diverse XI is over XIV. This is due in large part to having so many years and expansions under its belt, but I hope XIV can manage that level of diversity in the long run. Maybe when Thanalan and La Noscea are shown to us we'llbitch even more because that's what this forum does with everythingget a better sense of the geographic variety.
It is known that we will need to travel to each Aetheryte the first time - players will not be able to teleport us places we haven't been. As far as spending tons of time in an area because you like it: become a Crafter/Gatherer. I would not have spent nearly as much time at Dragonhead as I have if I didn't need HQ Darksteel/Crawler Cocoons/Spruce/Hippogryph Skins, even though I do like the area.
people will just get a rubber band and run in circles while asleep then...I just want them to learn that travel can be fun too. It doesn't have to be monotonous boredom.
