Dont understand wanting to solo in a MMO. If you want solo gameplay, theres plenty of single player games out there.
Solo based content will be the death of us all. And the reason quest grinding becomes boring and stale, is becuase your alone and isolated. With no interaction with other people in a MMO, it becomes a single player game in which you cant play for very long. Casual gaming should be left for single player games.
Need to feel like you are accomplishing something, instead of things being given to you in a easy go lucky way, Need to have party based content all the way, no hybrids.

Yeah, in fact calling repeatable things "quests" is probably a misnomer at this point. They should call them "tasks" or "errands" lol... When compared to quests in Tera, my grocery shopping experience is an epic adventure.

The good thing about FFXIV is that, if you become a crafter or gatherer, you can make your own quests that progress your character and are more fulfilling particularly at level cap. Such as, making a huge number of +1 gear so you can get that perfect meld you've always wanted.

Player-made quests brought on by game mechanics (melding, crafting, gathering, selling things) have a clear beginning and a clear ending that has a definite accomplishment. Tera's quests (one I played was literally, "Take this stuff over there behind the camp and come back and get 60k exp.) appear to be exp giveaways in many instances. At least in GW2's case, you had the events that progressed one to another and actually changed the game world (whether or not a bridge was up or a path was accessible, what mobs appeared, etc) and made the world feel real. Some people scoff at GW2's events, I think they were the best thing in that game.

There will be other stuff to do. If you want to change up quests you change the type of quest(ie. rotate the main story line, side, job), or there will be dungeons, explore and unlock the new crystals, or get a group and grind. The good thing is that unlike how ff11 started. No matter if you can find a sufficient group, you should be able to do something and get decent xp.

Except Yoshi said monster grinding will be inefficient in comparison to everything else. I really don't get why they'd do something like that.

There so faar seems to be a blend of regular quests, job quests, and new style leves, as well as dungeon runs for exp. Hopefully it continues into mid to higher levels, and they make the earlier ones repeatable and varied. Not sure but Yoshi mentioned randomizing quests that vary them up to keep things fresh. We will see.

its a valid concern by itself but to be fair i have to say this, TERA had the WORST quest lines i ever experienced in an mmo, quest grinding were just lazily stitched on for the western release of TERA and man does it show...

i am usually the type that never skips lore in a game but everything in TERA except the combat system was so uninteresting and stale from the beginning (not to mention their "cutscenes" couldn't even match up lip synch voices and subtitles, that was just embarrassing)

It is to date the only game i ever bought where i really regretted the purchase
(partly because of the horrible European publisher)

I don't think just because it sucks in TERA that means it will be bad for ARR if the development team puts as much effort in the quests as the do with the rest of the game and naoki yoshida and his team are one of the few groups where i have the feeling they can pull it off ^~^

I find it disappointing that some people don't want this game to be a true MMORPG. They just want it to be MMO without the Final Fantasy..

I've played many Final Fantasy games, and besides having the main storyline, they all have lots of side quest in them.

So? I'm not sure what your point there is. I leveled one job to 50 pretty much solo in 1 week through leves, too. Was it fun? No. I only kept going in hopes that things would get better later on, or that maybe people did make parties at higher levels.
All I found along the way, though, were other old XI players that were pretty much as confused as I was because nobody at all made parties or even used the search function. Instead, most people seemed to prefer soloing mind numbing leves for whatever reason even though the option to party up and go kill stuff somewhere as a group was there (and was considerably faster).

Now they want to make that option pretty much pointless in favor of something just about as mind numbing as leves: short, shallow, repetitive quests, or pretty much leves in disguise.

Yes, they sure do, but those sidequests did serve other purposes, much like XI's, and weren't your main method of progression.
