TESO the biggest rival for ARR?

After reading some news it looks like that "The Elder Scrolls online" also is going to get released around june/july this year.

they are starting beta applications very soon also... almost like FF: ARR.
do you think TESO could be the biggest risk for the reboot of FF14?

All people staring at the release of TESO? TESO the centre of the attention in the MMorpg genre?

why in the name of god they have to release it almost in the same time table?.... damn it..

what do you think? Is FF14 ARR going to receive enough attention from other players except final fantasy fans? i think now it is going to be much harder for Yoshi P. to make the reboot widely known and recognized.

I don't know really, but one game I have been eying if A Realm Reborn fails or isn't my cup of tea, is Blade & Soul. Combat in that looks pretty fun.

Well i think B&S is not such a big trademark like the big names "Final Fantasy" and "The Elder Scrolls" (looks at the skyrim and oblivion hype). i am very sure B&S wont be a big deal or will play a big role (especially after playing it myself)

but i think there is a very huge fanbase for the Elder scrolls franchise (Oblivion, Skyrim)

I doubt anything is going to happen at all. TESO has been known for a long long time; people who were interested in playing it were going to play it regardless. Those people who still want to check out ARR will do the same. The timing might make a few players have issue if they're only able to play one game, but in the end quality, not timing, will decide which is "the victor" if you want to break it down to that.

Nothing will happen. Every time a new MMO is announced a thread like this pops up.

they could lose people who want to play FFXIV but just end up playing TESO too TESO fails hard and become F2P within 1year and they try ffxiv. Because i just don't see any gaming staying P2P for years like wow and FFXI anymore i just really don't every mmo that come out and say there the next big thing end up being the biggest fail of the year.

Who knows tho maybe TESO would stay p2p for a few years does not matter if we lose some players we still have enough to enjoy the game and keep it p2p for years to come./

yeah and im not talking about people who already follow FF14 ARR. there are many casual gamers, who never heard of FF ARR.. but i think there are much more that heard of TESO.

i hope that the campaign for ARR wont get overwhelmed by new facts and commercials for TESO. especially because they are in the almost same time table. TESO offers with the traditional Elder scrolls gameplay a slight different MMO standard that we are used to. FF14 in contrast maybe seems to traditional for many others from the outside? do you think FF14 can "win" the fight against TESO? unfortunatley i doubt it..

but i hope the best for the reboot personally.. lets get our fingers crossed

and also Yoshi P. has to prove that FF14 offers much more traditional Final Fantasy elements like FFXIII and co. which is much disliked by fans. he not just has to "repair" the name of FF14 he has also to repair the name of the Final Fantasy franchise in generel. Many FF fans are sceptical against modern Final Fantasy titles.

this is going to be maybe the biggest competition

The Elder Scrolls is arguably a bigger franchise in todays day and age then FF is. However I think they're going to have to find the right mould as to how to make their game. As soon as the announcement started it was already being touted a WoW clone. If it follows that route I don't see it staying P2P for long. Then again, who knows these days.

I just don't think there's a fight to win. People will play both, and both may end up being successful. I imagine there's a good chance people may end up playing both at the same time.

I'm not worried. The fact that, like you said, both games offer something different should be enough to not make anyone worry. Personally (though I'm really enjoying Skyrim) I'd never touch an MMO based on TES. I don't like the world, I don't like the combat, and it's all so... western? I'm not sure if that's the right way to put it, but it's how it feels. ARR may be influenced by more western MMOs, but it's still a final fantasy, and it's a love letter to past final fantasies on top.

Both games will have healthy populations.
