Wow, some people love to attack someone for simply sharing an opinion, and one that is actually a valid concern.

Flashiness is great, and yes, it is a staple of FF games previously. The problem here isn't that it doesn't look cool, nor is the concern that there shouldn't be some spectacular effects. The problem is that, given the speed of the game (in the video), and the frequency of these flashy abilities, that it becomes a bit cluttered and hard to distinguish what is going on. Also remember that only one ability was ever happening in previous FF games. This becomes a huge issue when you are in a party. And don't forget that there is content planned for 24 people.

The other small point to be made here is that, if everything is is super awesome omgwtfbbq flashy, it lessens the impact of how neat higher level abilities are, unless those are even MORE flashy (contributing to the problem posted above).

What I read from the OP was that, while it looked cool, there is an issue where the flashiness starts having a negative impact on gameplay. That's a valid statement, and not one to start personally attacking him over. Gawd!

Yes, that's another issue, and this isn't the first time I've seen this issue. But that isn't the reason you or others have jumped on him.

On the contrary... in fact, the flashiness is what helps to assist other players in timing their own weaponskills more accurately.

Matter of fact, if you played FFXI, you will understand that in many instances even if you were watching the chat logs for your skillchain cue...(remember all the "<call10> Aldo-san usung Weaponskill now!!!" prompt lines?)... you sometimes missed the cue even if you had your chat log rigorously filtered.

In those cases, you found yourself actually watching the screen (not the chat log) for when Aldo-san would unleash his weaponskill... then count to three under your breath, and then did yours for the all-important skillchain. Sheesh, the more sophisticated player would even add the /wait 3 in their macros to get the timing even more precise.

Point is, in many instances where there were large alliances, you actually WANT to see the flashy weaponskill of your assigned skillchain group members on your screen. So yeah... gimme more flashy... people who don't like it, turn it off. Period.

I agree with this statement as well. There's a balance between the two extremes that I'd like to see. It needs to be visual enough to be able to understand what others are doing without keeping your eyes glued to the chat log, but if there are too many flashy actions going on all the time, then you have the same problem. This time, the issue is that you can't see what others (or the mobs) are doing because party member #7's actions are lost in the chaos of particle fx coming off of the mob.

I love me some visual eye candy, it just needs to be tuned to a degree where it doesn't interfere with me understanding what is going on, on a regular basis. But i completely agree with you, it shouldn't be the opposite, where I still don't know what is going on because there is nothing to distinguish actions apart from one another.
