    I go where my Linkshell goes. The decision is entirely up to them.

    For what it's worth though, I liked Excalibur, and I do hope we stay there. I can understand my LS picking an NA regional server though.

    It kinda saddens me, however. I loved the multi-cultural aspects of FFXIV's older version, even if there was a bit of segregation.

    Duty Finder is supposed to kinda get rid of that issue with not having enough people for a certain event on server anyways though. So we'll see in the Beta.

    Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of another, always at the same time as an end and never simply as a means

    This character will stay on the Excalibur server, because None of my real life friends play mmos. And since I have legacy status I have the option to make one on a regional server. So not really a big deal if you have legacy and want to start again with the story and server. Just my thoughts.

    I'm definitely moving to a regional server. Most everyone I play with all lives in the same area of the world, so it makes the most sense for us to do that.

    While I do not disagree with SE having sole control of their servers means they can do whatever they like whenever they like, but at the same time, you are worrying about professional data centers where 24x7 uptime is what they are best at.

    InterNap, for an example, is one such company that is (??) used by Blizzard (haven't check if still is, but did start back in the D2/Starcraft/Battle.net days). They have multi-tier 1 backbones, auto-rerouting, 24x7, and 99.9% uptime. I doubt SE have the same infrastructure with their data center.

    Edit: Just learned CCP (EVE-Online) also uses InterNap. CCP is based in Iceland, and the InterNap data center they uses is in London, their avg online players 1-1/2 yrs ago was around 20-25k users.

    Unless there is a major SW issue, which will effect ALL data centers no matter where you are, I do not foresee vendor hosted regional centers is going to have more downtime then the JP HQ center.

    I personally won't be playing on regional servers. Playing people within the same region is like trying to learn something new in an echo chamber, imo. I like that I get can on to a server at 3am and talk to people from japan or the uk. Learn how their approach to the game is, what their strategies are, etc.

    Then don't play online games at all.

    Lag is usually the most common excuse that some people use whenever something goes wrong. In any game.

    Not really? The most common excuse is it's someone elses fault, nice try though.

    Would be nice to have forum communities and shells organize themselves to decide what server they'll move to when 2.0 launches, just like they did when 1.0 launched.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
    Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
