I'm so torn about this. I can see the benefits of having regional servers, latency, etc. However I have always loved being able to play with people from all around the world in both XI and XIV. And while this will still be possible, it will be less comon with regional servers.
That, and I have many friends on my current server that will likely end up on different regional servers, and its a shame to lose contact with them, should I choose to relocate as well.
How many other games have you played where you had no choice but to connect to servers on the other side of the world? Especially australia- there, pings to almost anywhere outside of S.E.A. are very high- often 400ms or more, which makes playing high intensity games like FPSes nearly impossible.I've never played anything with ping that high anyway even in my sort of unfavorable location (except maybe 1.0). I'd be willing to bet that most of the time people get latencies so high that they actually become notable, it's because of something on their end (say, their ISP, active downloads/uploads or other users in their network or something) rather than just the actual server's location.
Yes, most MMORPGs are not so severely impacted by lag, but when PvP becomes involved, the issue is more significant. If you have no intention of ever doing so it won't usually matter much, but if you do...
No- I'm not stating this because I use the excuse or have the problem. I'm stating it because lag very well can be a genuine problem, and saying "Most ppl use it as an excuse" is an attempt to trivialize an issue that in various situations can be very real.Perhaps you believe any issues you've faced with PVP in the past have mostly attributed to your lag.

If by pings you mean the start of the pvp then that can be resolved by having a 3 second timer after both players have arrived in the area...How many other games have you played where you had no choice but to connect to servers on the other side of the world? How many games have you seen with servers in south america? The most common option for me are NA servers, which are on the other side of a kind of big continent. No matter which server I pick, I will end up with "high" latency.
And I already mentioned another game besides an MMO: LoL (League of Legends), but in any other game, the same applies. Heck even in Street Fighter, which requires a good connection between both players, I've rarely ever had any issues, and those that I've had were, again, most likely due to something on my (or the other player's) end.

Good point.. Were you in the Alpha, though? When I tell you guys I didn't notice any lag I am not over exaggerating lol. It was so surprising how smooth the game played for an Alpha. If that's any indication of the final version I am truly impressed. How many other games have you played where you had no choice but to connect to servers on the other side of the world? I agree with you.. >.< DAMN NDA!!! Hurry up SE and give us beta then we will realize how smooth the game is. xD

I found not much lag in 1.0 up until a few months before the end, so maybe JP best for us? Would have to try the NA one out to be sure.
lol ^^ I will bring some moro bars and some L&P with me![]()
