this or the option to play with a touchscreen device as controller
No. I don't like smearing my fingers all over a screen to play a game.
I'm fine with mouse/keyboard or controller.

I think touchscreens are cool technology that work well for hand held devices where you fingers are easily in reach of the screen. If FFXIV is ever ported to WII U or PS Vita some touch screen features will work well.
I don't see it optimal for a PC where you have a touch screen monitor. You would have frequently to switch between keyboard/mouse and touch screen. If it's pure touch screen you would have to have a software keyboard this would be a little better, however it's more awkward typing on a software keyboard.
I also think touch screen PC setups would require a smaller monitor. My current monitor is 27". If it was a touchscreen I couldn't actually reach the monitor without leaning over.
Holding my arms up to a PC screen for a 12hr sesh? I think I'm fit enough to manage 3 mins...
i always touch my screen playing this game, so pretty!
The only touch I would use is if the game got released on the Vita.
Get this thing running on a Windows 8 Pro tablet (Surface or otherwise) and things start to get interesting. However with crap GPUs these things look like they will have, not sure how well it will run.
