Seems to me with all the mmo's out or coming out, the selections to pick and choose from are as diverse as folk's preferences. Lots of free ones to choose from, lots of old school mmos still around and lots and lots of themepark mmos. Enough to satisfy anyone's taste. In my opinion, SE had better do some blockbusting promotions for FFXIV and not the alpha footages so much. Big big big ads. And I don't think its too early to start. They should pique the interest of the masses now. Its gotta be a must have and can't wait thing for people that until now - never even heard of A Realm Reborn. I been seeing trailers for The Hobbit for a whole year. Promoting a company make or break title has to be big and start out early enough to have the name known. I'm not seeing it.

Actrually yes. It is too early too start. Hyping a game several months before release means that release will happen when the curve of the hype is already descending. The sweet spot to bring out the big guns is a couple of months prior to release.

There are more than 2 MMO's coming out in 2013, Elder Online, PSO2, Defiance and I have a feeling WoW2 with the way Blizzard is being so hush hush about thier latest project. The 2 that FFxiv should be afraid of is Elder Online and Defiance.

But people said the same thing about other games, and none are really standing tall at the moment.

well maybe mmo's and any game for that matter needs a new and higher laws regulating how much they need to show us prior to purchase. how much content is in them b4 launching ..aka can't give us a broken product. and simply show us the important parts of the mmo instead of being able to lie, hide or wanna be hype there game for box sales.

when a person buys a cod game they know for the most part what they are getting, that is not the case for mmo's. we never know till after we spend a good 60-70bucks plus time wasted. when people buy any product this should be the case and not lies, or overly hyped nonsense.

Most of our LS moved over to PSO2 after the End of an Era events.

In the beginning it's fun because everything is new and fresh. The battles feel very lively at first... but it reminds me of the old behests when FFXIV first came out -- one big zergfest done over and over and over.

There isn't really any strategy. No roles in combat are necessary. Basically you just run around to hack and slash everything that pops up. Interaction or cooperation with anyone for anything is very optional.

Yes, I'm eagerly awaiting the day we can return to Eorzea.

But running around kiting everything with a chicken shaped weapon is just so... chicken!

I'm not very technical in my gameplay, so I could be way off... but don't Hunters do significantly more damage blow for blow, and especially when they get into their combos?

Rangers do just as much damage, and at a distance. The game is a goddamn joke. I know because I tried playing as a HUcast with a friend of mine and he took everything down before I reached it.

Hm. Most of us are only around Level 20 to 30 right now and we're just playing as whatever class we like. I haven't really noticed that Rangers can blow everything up before Hunters can even get close (when doing a quest at the appropriate level)... but maybe we're just playing wrong.

I agree that the game is a bit of a joke. It's already getting boring, but at least it's something to help pass FFXIV's down time.
