If these servers were new for FFXIV 1.0 then they will work perfectly fine. You think you need bleeding edge servers?

It depends on what performance they're looking for. In the last two years, for instance, SSD drives for servers made an enormous technological leap in quality and performance, and that kind of speed in data reading/writing would benefit an MMORPG by quite a lot.

They're even quite affordable now.

I'd rather 100% of their time and resources be devoted to 2.0 and meeting their original timeline as close as possible. 1.0 was fun, but its over. There was no reason to leave the server's online so long. Wile it was nice for those who made use, I uninstalled my client the morning after the 2.0 trailer was released and the official end of the world took place.

You don't need to replace servers to upgrade to SSDs. SSD existed back then, I was using SSDs before FFXIV. How do you know they aren't using them right now? If they want more bandwidth there is a reason to replace the servers. CPU performance hasn't increased significantly.

They might not even want to use SSDs because of the limited writes and the reliability risk.

FFXI has made so much money for SE, I'll bet at this point their money (my money too, still) is being spent on a lot more than FFXIV.

You can keep going on like this is you want, we are both speculating. I know you want FFXIV 2.0 to use the latest and greatest of everything. SE primary goal, like any company, is to make a profit. They will make efficient decisions. If replacing the servers isn't going to make much of a difference, they are not going to do it.

The latest and greatest simply tends to be more futureproof than the older. Of course I can't decide for them, but I can hope
