They're even quite affordable now.

You don't need to replace servers to upgrade to SSDs. SSD existed back then, I was using SSDs before FFXIV. How do you know they aren't using them right now? If they want more bandwidth there is a reason to replace the servers. CPU performance hasn't increased significantly. It depends on what performance they're looking for. They might not even want to use SSDs because of the limited writes and the reliability risk.

Two years ago (actually more, because I doubt they bought the servers the day before release) SSD were WAY too unreliable and too small for servers. I seriously doubt they used them for FFXIV.You don't need to replace servers to upgrade to SSDs. SSD existed back then, I was using SSDs before FFXIV. I'm not saying they MUST use them for FFXIV: ARR, but server technology hasn't been inactive in two years or more. The massive improvement of SSD technology is just an example. Can't say using new servers over three years-old ones wouldn't benefit the game.

You can keep going on like this is you want, we are both speculating. I know you want FFXIV 2.0 to use the latest and greatest of everything. SE primary goal, like any company, is to make a profit. They will make efficient decisions. If replacing the servers isn't going to make much of a difference, they are not going to do it.Two years ago (actually more, because I doubt they bought the servers the day before release) SSD were WAY too unreliable and too small for servers.
