I hope ARR really comes as WoW clone, so you wont play it and stop bitching in forum.

And here we are... a white knight trying to shut others up so he doesn't have to read things he doesn't agree with - even though he doesn't have to read it in the first place.
Keep it up! Keep trying to silence opinions you don't like. You guys did wonders for FFXIV the first time around.
keep talking rubbish, I have my part in ARR, your opinion wont change a thing though. And here we are... a white knight trying to shut others up so he doesn't have to read things he doesn't agree with - even though he doesn't have to read it in the first place.

Its not so much a crystal ball predictions to say that a game that is seen as a rehash of an already existing and more popular game will not succeed. The forums are based on the game. Who cares if there are people bitching on it, if there wasn't, then clearly the MMO isn't reaching enough people.
And people are concerned, they've seen the vids, and the excuses that came with them before. When will "it's only Alpha." Become "It's only Beta.". Or "It's to be expected on release/update"? The dev team shouldn't aim to make a mediocre game, nor its fans expect change to result in turning 14 into a game that blends in with the crowd of MMORPGs; that doesn't translate to success or save the brand name, the purpose of why Yoshi P was brought on for the first place.
The honest answer to your question Zakarn is that it is probably too late to change the things people are unsatisfied with. At this point it would probably require an overhal as drastic as the one they're almost finished with. We're getting what we're getting and the best they can do is tweak this or that to make the pill easier to swallow so to speak.
As far as nailing it down to one specific item, the problem there is that it isn't one thing it's a host of things. And they're all unavoidable core mechanics that can't just be avoided or changed to suit everyone's palate. The WoW styled combat with moves on a GCD, the fetch questing, hand holding from cradle to grave, all the things that could make it another SWToR or AOC. Another game that feels and plays just like WoW that people will try for a month or 2 and walk from.
On top of that issue, differing palates means that some folks are ok with some of those aspects and not ok with others. I'm sure if I look in the "This isn't FFXI and never will be" thread in the Alpha forums there will be someone loving every scrap they've borrowed from WoW and still bemoaning the fact that they even so much as copied the look of the races from FFXI because they hated the game so much.

Well, on the topic of questing. Perhaps people wouldn't be so fussy about it if there were a viable alternative. I don't mean something faster per se, just something comparable say within %10 plus or minus of quest grinding. I could see a number of things working that way. Mob grinding either solo or in a party, or chain running instances.
For combat maybe taking another hint from WoW would be a positive thing. It seems like currently every non mage class will be working off of TP. TP currently regerates like energy (used to) for a rogue. Just a set amount regained over a set period of time with no influence over it's rate of gain. You're not really managing a resource, just tapping it out and then waiting on regen.
Tack on the fact that this looks like every non caster classes' mechanic and imo it makes things pretty bland. I would think it to be in their best interest to vary things a little bit more. Maybe have some classes start at 0 and build TP the old fashioned way (smacking something). Maybe give them a quick TP building move they can use when they're tapped out.
Just some thoughts off the cuff.

On the topic of questing, I actually prefer the quest based approach to the "hey, lets get together and kill this type of badguy for the sole purpose of leveling." Even though it is pretty predictable to talk to a farmer and have him tell me X monster is destroying his crops, please bring me 10 fangs to show me you helped clear some out, I much prefer to have a reason to be killing the monsters. Lol, PETA would be soooo upset at these pointless parties killing for "sport", just look at their attacks on Mario 3 and Pokemon (google PETA and Mario/Pokemon). I jest about PETA getting upset though.Well, on the topic of questing. Perhaps people wouldn't be so fussy about it if there were a viable alternative. I can also see why people would be tired of this kind of thing as it has been done to death. Especially if you have played "every MMO out there" cause thats a lot of MMO's. Several things that have me wondering though,
There will be a set amount of quests in the game.
Designed to help you raise your level.
To what extent will these gopher quests be repeatable?
I do the first 10 levels worth of quests to get me familiarized with the game then i change jobs, Will i again be forced to go through all of those tutorial quests? I'm no longer a new character, would they really make me do the "learn how to walk quest" "learn how to accept a quest quest" "help the local people quests" To what extent will these quests be repeatable?
Am i to do the same 10 levels worth of quests with each class or after finishing a quest with one class, is it finished for good? Wouldnt the repeatable stuff be the levequests? I would be fine with having to do all these "hand holding" quests so long as they are for a single class\job. the exception being class/job specific quests which would more likely not be "cookie cutter" quests. Something this MMO does differently than others I have played (havent played many mind you so please tell me others that do) is it allows you to changed your class\job without needing to start a new character and avoid the need to go through the tutorial and basic questing stuff. Also, whats to stop me from skipping all the filler hand holding quests and just doing the pivotal milestone quests that develop story and class/job progression. I only hope they make it so we can telll the difference between filler and important quests.
i know that in 1.0 once i did the quest it wouldnt come back if i changed my class/job, and this makes sense. I dont know if this will change come ARR but it seems a little redundent. Hold my hand with my first class/job up to endgame, ok. after that i get to grind with levequests and dungeon runs and mob grinding, awesome. Hold my hand through every class/job, whats the point of playing... Does this express the most of the concern with questing or do some people just not want this type of thing period? Am i over thinking this whole thing? Most likely. Cant wait to play the game and actually see how it handles and plays, with any luck the beta will give us all a better picture.
