Okay, it seems I have to swallow my own words. I got the good ol' box of FFXI sent to me from back home, installed and patched it... and I'm finally in.

I haven't played the game before, except the short couple of hours when I tried it and quit, a year back.
Are there ANYONE around else at all, who haven't rounded the game 1000 times over, or am I the only truly new player? :P

Well... I am one of the brand new player in XI. Heck, I think most poster on this thread are brand new too. But it's understandable since this thread has reached this long. ;D

Currently in my 6th weeks of playing @ Bahamut server. BST 67 / THF 60. Still haven't touched abyssea yet because there are ppl suggested me against it with reasons sort-of making dumb-capped player (or so I heard, and no offense... that's what I perceive ;D ), except I do have roamed thru maw since ppl say I can port thru there in the future when I be able to.

So I was homeless for 5 weeks due to Hurricane Sandy and while in exile I found FFXI in a partition on my laptop! 2 days of updating and i was in! I dont know much about XI but i'm enjoying it so far. Met a few very nice people but no XIVers yet. Can i join up with you guys?

Of course! Everyone is welcome. If you just make a character on the Phoenix server and send either myself (Zehvura) Rjain, Xikari, or Kunitetsu a /tell, we'll make sure to get someone in touch with you to get you a pearl to the shell.

We have quite a few new people in the shell. Level progression is pretty quick nowadays so don't be intimidated by the number of high levels in the shell. You could probably hit cap in a week if you had the time. Just make sure you make a character on Phoenix and /tell any of the people mentioned in the OP.

You are right. Most posters in the thread are brand new, so anyone who hasn't played before would still be among like minded peers with just as much experience.

Feel free to transfer over if you'd like. We'll make sure to get you a pearl.

I'm installing the free trial right now...hoping maybe I can upgrade to the full version and import my old account...not sure if I really want start over from lvl 1...but would be nice to play with others who have been away from the game like I have been.

I've already started on Bahamut, though I'm only lvl 9 so far. I've got too little time to lvl hardcore, but if someone want to join in on some casual climb to the top... My name's Centra.

Most of the people in this thread joined Phoenix. I think the only one on Bahamut is Bobbin T

Level 9 isn't very far if you want to recreate a character on Phoenix.

It is a bit sad that we're apart. Give circumstances, hopefully we could meet somehow. Tho seems lately many players were also migrating from other server to Bahamut. ^^

Anyway, welcome to the jungle. Hope you enjoy your stay, it's a crazy ride here! XD

BTW, grinding in XI kinda reminds me of FF2. Not only you need to grind lvls, but skills also very important. Luckily, skill shared across jobs.
Playing mage were also a bit confusing here. Example as White Mage, there's variation of Cure 1 up to Cure 7 spell while having Cura 1 to 3 and Curaga 1 to 5. Scrolling through spell list gonna be long. :lol:

Teleporting here's a bit old school. Luckily the new expansions added more optional teleportation, whether thru abbysea's maw, BCNM warp, outpost supply missions, special job ports like white mage, Summoner, etc.

The variety of jobs added the richness of playing experience and needs to learn others as well. Then there's story missions that's unlike current FF14 which is way difficult for new players, especially when doing Limit Break / Genkai to upgrade level cap. Right now in process of uncapping to level 75 which I expect going to be tough. XD

Then there's content I haven't touched like expansions which I gather is already bigger than the main XI content itself. Wondering if I can somehow experience it all before ARR finally released. ;D

I'm having some problems with the game crashing upon NPC or object interaction.. so I'm going to figure that out before I play more.
