[dev1034] What ARE companies, though?

Do some of the new mini/side quests and it does give a bit of indulgent information about Grand Companies..

It seems that now that Garlemald is starting to make it's move on Eorzea and launch it's conquest campaign, that the Grand Companies are inter-twined between each nation, they are adventurer's and members of guilds alike that arise to quell said invasion!

But really.. What are they exactly?

Finding out the information first hand i.e. in game, is half the fun just being told how they work in full via a website forum is not fun.

I understand that there is not much clear instructions on how companies work, but just to flip it a bit, don’t we want to dig the answers for ourselves, the players instead of getting a hand me down detailed instructions and just follow it? I mean some of us complain (not everyone) that FFXIV is so easy and no challenge, well now we got some challenge, I mean I know this process sounds like a little round around or like where is waldo kind of process, but I think its going to be pretty rewarding at the end of it if we keep going no?

As soon as I hit r50 Conjurer my personal goal is to do all the side quests, as I read that some of the posts here that those new side quests can paint the picture for the companies. I mean it doesn’t hurt to try to figure it out ourselves, then post it here for everyone to see right?

Companies are to combat the threat to Eorzea. Until that threat is revealed and the actual "event" takes place we can't really bust into the content for companies. If they released what companies will be they would be releasing what companies will fight against.

I understand why they haven't released the info but I also understand how it sucks they said they would tell us about them and all we got was the prequel to whats going to happen.

We dont have that info right now. All we have is lore and story.Companies building hype and is the last shot for me on this game to succed.

You misunderstand a guided tour to wth really are companies.
And no a way to battle a thread to eorzea is not what im asking about.
The truth is WE DONT KNOW.Everyone making assumptions they have a rough idea of what it is.But no you dont, only the devs know and they only showed pictures and lore of the 3 main figures on every city.Im okay with lore, but honestly at this stage of the game i need something to look forward to gameplay wise.Atm everything is meh´.

There's an NPC at the Gladiator's Guild in Ul'dah that also gives you a bit of info about Grand Companies. I haven't found a way to join one yet, though.

I get it, but like I said, this could be a "run around" or "where's waldo" style of gameplay (from some of the speculations anyway), which I don't think is something that many players are looking for at this time. SE is famous of doing these styles of gameplay in many of the FF series and I understand that you are looking for more than these kinds of gameplay.

However my comment is to stress the fact that doing these sidequests or "run around" or "where's waldo" style quests gameplay that may end up painting what companies are is not that bad. It may not live up to the expectations of many players but for me, personally I'll take it, its better than nothing at all.

Besides I believe that SE will continue to make it better and better overtime.

The problem is im not willing to wait "overtime" for something i have no clue what i am waiting for.
Now is not the time to keep development of the main feature of FFXIV inside development doors.Is been like that for 6 months , is not yoshida creation is the main feature of ffxiv and we have no clue what is it about game play wise.
Anyways im repeating myself,i do hope this is as exciting and innovative as they want us to believe , couse my patience is running out.They have to know SOMETHING about companies by now , there is absolutely no reason to keep silent about it anymore.Not like any developer is gonna steal the idea at this point or anything.

I agree and yes I understand your frustration, but see this is why SE is unique on how they craft they're MMO style from what I have seen so far, which I really like. The way they do it is by you, as a player will hate and love the experience. To say it simply is that you will always feel like you will hit the wall and then..BAM! SE comes through with an amazing surprise for you at the end, and you're back into being re-energized and love SE again..

You might not agree with this statement but at a personal level thats how I've experienced it many times thats why this time I'm willing to wait and see what is the "amazing surprise" at the end with this Company thing.

I encourage everyone to keep posting on what they find in regards to any sidequests or npcs that involves the grand companies here! I'm looking forward to any info you guys got, so far its been pretty good sets of threads in terms of info.
