Laptop, put it on arm of your chair, or on your sofa, open vent/mumble, disable push to talk, and speak.

Wireless headset for your PC, put on, talk. PS3 players can use them just because it's not in the same box doesn't mean you can't use both.

I don't think the point he's trying to make is "I can afford to have 20 different devices in my house to seperately run VOIP programs from my main gaming system and so should everyone else", because I remember playing XI I used to not have a router (back in the day!) and I played on the PS2, so I was only able to have one of the connections (PS2 or my PC) running at one time, meaning I was unable to take advantage of things such as VOIP or online resources in general.

I know people who would play XIV on the PC and then use their spare laptop for the VOIP (usually due to something such as the VOIP program crashing their game client on the same machine), and that's totally cool, but it would be nice to give console gamers the option to engage in VOIP through the game if it were possible for SE to manage (it might cost them more money than it's worth) especially considering that many people who play games on the PS3 such as Call of Duty, which have been known to always have a voice chat feature built into their games, likely already have a headset that they bought specifically for their PS3 (I personally have a bluetooth one for my PS3) and it would be a great additional and optional feature for those players to enjoy.

I also don't want to have the future PS3 playing community of FFXIV to feel alienated because they're unable to setup their play environment to accomodate an extra PC/Laptop purely there for the purpose of using a VOIP program.

Anyway, I don't see why they couldn't get a feature like this going as long as they can get it done in a way that doesn't mess with connection speeds and stability and whatnot. It shouldn't be that hard for them to do, although I agree that it isn't particularly necessary right now, although if it is, there's no reason that a PS3 player can't use a Vent or Mumble app on their phone or something like a PC user would use a third party program. I'm willing to bet someone would make an add-on for just that, though it would also only be available to the PC crowd as well.
No that person did not read it if he/she did, he/she would have not said most pc players use some type of out of game voice chat. This whole post was about making equal footing for ps3/pc.

Believe it or not, not everyone has a pc/laptop just sitting next to their ps3 ready to connect a headset to it.

    Smart phone?

Even if they were to implement a voice chat into the game, very few would use it because everyone who needs it use their own servers where they have better control/quality of who they can hear.

There are still problems with that as well. SE should have voice chat built in for 2 reasons.

    1. it is a standard for ps3 multiplay games.

    2. you can't except every ps3 player to have a phone thats gonna sit on mumble for hours people have things called data plans.

The one flaw in this argument is that unlike the 360, the PS3 doesn't come with a headset right out of the box. Personally speaking, I would think that anyone that cares enough to grab a headset for their PS3 would be savvy and/or willing enough to use a smartphone/laptop/desktop/tablet to deal with voice chatting with their MMO guild. Also anecdotal evidence that I've heard(from a few years ago admittedly) has pointed out that the voice chatting on the PS3 isn't that great and people don't really use it as much.

And seriously dude, quit whining about people disagreeing with you. It isn't making your position any more attractive.

Also aside from DC universe, this is probably the only other MMO that comes out on a console. Chances are not many people will be familiar with how guilds runs in the game. Of course hardcore players have vents with their clans from FPS shooters and whatnot(or more likely just flat out switched to PC) but were dealing with a wider casual audience here.

I'll agree that FFXIV 2.0 may be geared towards a more "casual" audience(personally I've always read the devs' comments as alluding to a more playable FFXIV rather than more casual), but even so, how many casual gamers actually own dedicated game consoles nowadays and play anything other than your typical sports or racing games? How many of those even play MMOs? I don't have all the numbers, but I'd wager it isn't as high relatively speaking. Two of my friends who are waiting for the PS3 version to maybe try it out played FFXI on consoles using a seperate Vent server as well, so there's evidence of that.

That being said, I don't think anyone here is saying "no no no fuck PS3 voice chat never in a million years!!" as much as we're saying "well if they never added it or added it much later, it wouldn't be the end of the world as there are enough solutions out there".
