Hey all,

Fernehalwes of the Localization team here. Saw the thread title, and just had to pop in.

I was lucky enough to get invited to a hands-on demo of the Oculus Rift at Gamescom in August...and it was LE FRICKIN' AWESOME (excuse my French). Hopefully the day will come when we have the option to experience a VR Eorzea. Must (rift) start sending (rift) subliminal messages (rift) to Yoshi-P (rift) immediately (rift).

This is an actual prototype of the dev-kit.

I'm getting one for research purposes and I am not automatically thinking that a 3rd person game would not work. Imagine floating above your character and looking around by... looking around instead of using the mouse. The main question I have is how to translate a 2D UI to this scenario. But that is kind of the point of research and it is one of the things I want to figure out.

I like the idea of having a full field of view instead of monitors and tv's that act as a 'window' to see the game. That's almost real VR. Almost.

Nice that you don't have to use the motion detector because that would get tiring.

Do it man, I'm glad I'm not the only one here who's tried the rift. I'm getting my dev kit soon, so if you guys need testers you know where to find me.
