yeah, some western folks like ugly character models. and the MMOs primarily targeting western audiences usually have the requisite ugly race/s. even then they're uncommon at best, because the human-types and elf-types and midget-types will always see the bulk of use.

so you want an ugly race in a game that is clearly not a western MMO? sure they want XIV to appeal to western gamers, but look at the MASSIVE rift between your WoW crowd and your FF crowd. each hates the other game/type with a pretty intense passion. no matter how you slice it, games have target markets and the target market of FF isn't the western ugly-beasty-humanoid crowd.

Quick.. Better tell Yoshi he's not making a Western MMO and a more "beastly" race just wouldn't work... because Fusional says so, and they speak for everyone. Clearly.

• Reason why he is torn between Viera and something more brute-ish like a reptile is because Viera are too close to humans and he wanted to introduce something more beast-like. Also, Viera has only appeared as female so far... and he doesn't want to have a gender-locked race... [read: do you seriously want to see bunnyGUYS?!]

would some people still like it? obviously. would some people still choose one? obviously. should it possibly be an option at some point in the future? sure. but proportionally it will be 5% of the population or less. and for the people who desperately want to be the beautiful unique snowflake... fantastic. but in the end that's just wasting development dollars that could be better spent *now*

You're just spewing off conjecture here, fusional. Do you have something you can back up with actual stats, and not just random numbers you pulled out of the blue because "hey, they sound good to me"?

If you don't like the idea, fine. Say "I don't like the idea and here are my personal reasons why". That is a valid response. Attempting to speak for the majority and pulling "statistics" out of thin air is not basis for meaningful discussion, because you have no way of knowing or backing up your claims.

So, again, if you'd like to discuss the idea/suggestion on its own merits, or perhaps put forth your own idea for a new race, by all means. If you're going to sit here and play "statistical soothsayer", then I'd prefer you did it in another thread. 'kay? Thanks.
