I like your ideas!
I like your ideas!
i'm sorry. who are you again? you seem upset.
want to know why i didn't contribute anything to this discussion? let's talk about legitimate foundations, then.
i mean we're clearly FAR TOO STUPID, ENTITLED, WHINY AND SELF-IMPORTANT AS A COMMUNITY to realize in between flailing "sky is falling" threads that a major reason we pretty much only got juuuuuust enough content in 1.0 to keep us somewhat busy is because, well... you know...
that thing i said about them running a barebones dev crew to the brink of exhaustion (and beyond) to work on the 1.0 client while... wait for it...
the rest of them are put them to work on the 2.0 client- in addition to bringing in more muscle to throw into the task of remaking the game into something they've said time and time again that they want to not only meet *but exceed* the "gold standard of MMOs". i mean that makes sense, right? to do all this specifically for 2.0 only to apparently completely shit the bed and have 2.0 effectively suffer many of the same problems that made 1.0 a failure. right?
problems which include lack of content...
... which largely existed in 1.0 in the first place because they were preoccupied with 2.0...
understand yet? or is the logic way too difficult to wrap your feeble heads around? just in case i'll repeat one last time, for the sake of clarification:
basing an assumption about 2.0 on one of the problems with 1.0 which largely stemmed from the very fact that they were busy working on 2.0 to begin with is completely asinine. furthermore, basing an assumption about 2.0 on any of the problems with 1.0 when they've made it clear they plan to fix and/or improve upon every single element of the 1.0 client in order to make the 2.0 client successful is completely asinine as well.
so, yeah, you're right. i didn't add anything to the discussion this time because the entire god damned premise of the thread was idiotic. and that's what i took issue with and pointed out. so, no. the foundation of the thread isn't legitimate when it's built upon a false premise.
does that mean people shouldn't worry that there won't be enough content to keep every demographic busy? nope. that's a valid concern. does that mean people shouldn't talk about content that particular demographics might enjoy, or that might simply make the game better? nope. have at it.
but the principle of the matter is what concerns me, and that principle is that the premise of the thread is based on shit logic. so i commented on the premise and nothing more. take away the faulty premise and make the thread ONLY about content suggestions, without any of the "blah blah but 1.0 oh my god sky is falling" rhetoric and there's no problem.
dig?
feel free to follow me to more threads and helplessly flail about at me, though- especially the ones i stopped reading after a couple lines of irrational sensationalist drivel. i don't particularly feel like i need to talk about content because i'm pretty sure yoshi and the devs are already hard at work on that, because they likely understand *better than you or anyone in this thread* what kind of mountain they'll need to overcome in order to ensure the 2.0 client is not only successful- but actually good and worth playing long-term.
though in the end, why are you even worried about it? because, really, what's the point in harping over content in 2.0 when you never even experienced half of what little content was available in 1.0 to begin with?

You Mad bro?
Althought I'd love to hear you illaborate on said "Shit logic"
Because our baseless assumptions are apparantly trumped by your well informed assumptions on how 2.0 is currently being developed. Your only shaky ground you stand on is that because the developers were working on 2.0, 1.0 sucked it's pretty flimsy reasoning.
1.0 had alot of time to be developed and see where that got us, it's not a matter of time/manpower it's a matter of working on what's important. Of course this will vary person to person, but please don't try to pretend that launching a MMO with lackluster content and even trying to expand upon it hasn't been a massive issue in the industry. Every single MMO has peaked quickly due to content that is released being used as readilly consumable, easy to complete, often casual content not focused on the longer term.
But you know, almost a decade of watching MMOs in the post-WoW Erra launch and meet utter doom due to poor content managment is "Shit logic"
We have no idea on how 2.0 is being developed. We don't know what content is currently going on, what content is only PLANNED on being implemented; we don't know very much about it at all.
This thread dives into the possibilities of content that 2.0 MIGHT and COULD have, despite whatever content 1.0 had, or what 1.0 lacked. And in spite of your assumptions, the thread has nothing to do with 1.0. We KNOW 1.0 suffered from lack of content because the development team was otherwise skeletal in nature compared to the overwhelming force of the rest of the team stationed on 2.0. And we already knew that 1.0 was only given barebones content because it wasn't going to be around forever; it was simply to keep the current fanbase entertained, however much at all, for the time being until 2.0 went up and running.
The thread's premise has NOTHING to do with 1.0; we've based our ideas on the possibilities for the future and ARR, not what we already know (and otherwise don't give a shit about) of the past.
The secondary premise of the thread is another issue: 1.0 had plenty of time to be developed and planned for, as already stated by Jynx. In light of this, we can also discuss what 1.0 COULD HAVE HAD, if given the time to blossom into an amazing game, which wasn't going to happen thanks to the shortsightedness of Tanaka and his old development team.
However, since 1.0 is already gone, there's no reason to discuss what it could have had; instead, we turn our discussion towards possibilities of the future, what features ARR might hold that 1.0 obviously did not, and it's a feasible thread thanks to the fact our knowledge of 2.0 is largely unknown and we don't know how precisely Yoshida's team is handling and proceeding with the development.
Therefore, we can talk plenty of what the future might hold, regardless of how stupid your argument is and how much or how little you contribute to the thread - which, so far, all you've done is acted like an overly-hostile forumgoer. Simply because you think a thread is one thing does not make it so.
If you have nothing constructive to contribute to the overall purpose and goal of the thread, you have no reason to post in here. End of story.
P.S. I don't give a butt if half of my post is illogical or otherwise. I'm typing like a speed-demon and not thinking thoroughly, nor do I care enough to waste the mental capacity on you.
aka leave the thread since you have nothing to say. Done, and done.
Oh, another couple of points I'd like to touch on before this is your last reply in the whole thread, lawl:
1) Since when do people follow you around? I don't believe you're a forum celebrity. You're merely a person who played the game with too much time on their hands, leading you to multiple relics and probably an entire collection of the 7. That doesn't make you any more or less important here on the board, and therefore your opinion is on equal grounds with anyone else's. If you have nothing interesting to contribute to a thread (which, lets face it, this thread only touches on the POSSIBILITIES of future content in ARR) then why do you choose to speak in it? You wasted your own time and everyone else's by sitting on your high horse and talking down to the rest of us.
2) As previously stated, I know and fully understand the circumstances of 1.0's existence, 2.0's creation, and all sorts of obstacles they need to mull through. I've taken part in the development of several large mods for other games, and though it's not a professional or paid position I've put plenty of pride into my coding, my crappy modeling, and my decent playtesting skills. I've learned what it means to be on a development pipeline, the hurdles that need to be cleared, and the problems that need to be conquered. By making a suggestion in this thread, I by no means imply I know better than the development team on any subject related to their game. Again, I simply joined in to discuss possibilities and decent suggestions that other people might have, while contributing my own thoughts to the matter and becoming relevant to the thread. It's for fun and giggles, and not only are you NOT contributing, but you're also reading far too much into the matter and taking it too literally, when it's light-hearted and for fun.
3) I've been playing this game on and off since day 1. I've experienced plenty of the content. I've done countless Ifrit and Moogle runs, I leveled several classes/jobs to 50, I nearly finished the GC stuff, I finished the original story-line, I did all my AF quests, I participated in several speed runs (and quite frankly didn't care for that kind of content). While I found the game quite enjoyable in my own way, I found myself abhorrent of the way they made spammable content and how getting things such as Darklight gear was handled. Is it wrong for me to choose to not participate in things like AV/CC speedruns for gear I'll still be able to get later when the system makes more sense, is less convoluted, and a token reward system is in place?
Is it wrong for a person to not feel like grinding Hamlet defense for hundreds of hours to get silly beastmen seals, and every other thing required to even ATTEMPT a relic weapon? Is it wrong for me to choose not to buy a double-melded class weapon because I a) don't have the gil or b) don't give a damn? Is it wrong for me to choose to not work towards an Artifact Weapon right now when the system will change and become less convoluted, thanks to changes to the battle system, Hamlet, dungeons, etc?
Short answer: No, it isn't. I played the game my way and I found it enjoyable. Just because someone didn't experience a game to the extent that you did doesn't make them any less a fan or a player of the game than you. And quite frankly, nobody gives a fuck and a half about how many relics you have, or how much darklight you have; to think otherwise is to be inflated by your massive ego, and all of the other children will just point and laugh because you think you're a somebody on a bloody video game. Good job, friend.
Now, if you have nothing worth contributing to this thread, you may show yourself out.
Personally, I think this is a worthwhile thread that could fuel ideas to help the devs develop the game. However, the devs have already stated that they are looking for a killer game and are implementing some of the suggestions about housing and bards. I would love to see an impromptu group of gamers form a little band to play some new music.
I wrote the devs a long letter about game content way back when. I loved the Easter Egg quest. It was meaty: in other words it lasted about a week and had an interesting reward. Doesn't matter if the reward is substantial. It is sufficient to get a flashy new helmet and ring and accomplishment. That is the kind of content we need. Worthwhile adventures with interesting stories and some puzzlement. Try to avoid: go there - kill that. Now I know some people just want to kill the toughest monster.... all macho bravura.... but battling bosses gets old fast. Leveling your stats and equipment so you can face the strongest boss and not die instantly is not the basis of a good game. Tricky maneuvers to keep from getting blasted by the boss may be interesting to some players, but I think the percentage of players that like that is low.
That said, every Final Fantasy I have played revolved around getting the highest level weapon and armor and then killing the super-boss. It wouldn't be Final Fantasy without this aspect. However, FFARR needs to live for at least ten years, so we need things like the Easter Egg hunt at least as often as every other month with Seasonal Events in between.
It is super important to have deep story lines that all tie together into the complex history of Eorza. We need stories that explain why this is that way, why this works that way, why such and such is even in the story. We need clever stories that get you involved in stuff... like I would love to be forced to live with a moggle family for a couple of weeks while following a story line. Or how about a story the forces you to get up close and friendly in a beastman camp.
Now people have already complained that I mix FF stories, and that most FF stories do not take place on Eorza, but please recall that FF includes time-space portals and trips into other realities. So, why couldn't there be underground caverns full of super-high-tech equipment and machinery, full of robots, access to portals, access to spaceships, etc. We could find stories where Yuna and others show up (Snow? Lightning?). For fun, you could even have a story that crosses over into Xenosaga or Kingdom Hearts. (Yea... I know many people don't want this, but this game has to last for ten years...)
The Prayer Ring Quest that concluded FFXIV-1 was just about the best FF quest ever. I loved it. It was beautiful. If FFARR has more of that it will be the game of the year.
