Conjecture? what is made clear about snow OR the key being the tower?
Its known in lore as the "Battle over Silvertear Falls". after the battle ends, the waters ceased to flow, and all that is left is Silvertear Lake....but I don't understand why our heroes appear in some sort of jungle that look like Mor Dhona before the attack of the Empire and the death of Midgardsormr.

That pic of how mor-dhona use to look before the events of 1.0. i remember when the image was shown that Tanaka said this was mor-dhona or one of the dev team don't remember but ya this is mor-dhona before the events.

I am thoroughly convinced at this point, due to images in the ARR trailer, that the key couldnt be the crystal tower.
Here's why:
Is two keys/swords not convincing enough? How about six?

Why are people saying that the 'key' is the Crystal Tower? The Crystal Tower already 'exists' in 1.0 - just underground in Mor Dhona. It's explained by the professor in the Monk questline.
Crystal tower came out from the ground this was said many months back. The tower came out due to dalamud being so close to earth many ruins also came out crystal tower is one of them. Also the keys wont all be in mor-dhona there all over the world not sure if it mean only in eorzea or we have to go to other lands also to get them.

Why? I have lived in places, in real life, where thick forest thrived within sight of glaciers and snow covered mountains. Climate can change rapidly with altitude. If you've ever been to the south island of New Zealand, seeing forest and snow side by side is quite common.
Seems to me the image shows the key to Dalamud pretty clearly. But who can be certain.
If you are referring to this questline:
Brother From Another Mother
Insulted Intelligence
The Pursuit of Power
Good Vibrations
Return of the King... of Ruin
The only references are "ancient aether" and "seventh shakra". Pretty big stretch to say "Thar be crystal tower in Mor Dhona", heh.

If you speak to him outside of the quest itself, you can read the entire, actual text. In it he very clearly states that there is an anomaly under the ground in Mor Dhona, and it's been recently active thanks to Dalamud's proximity, and also that it's large and extends deep into the ground like a tower, and also that it's level of activity would require it be made entirely of crystal. If you are referring to this quest:
Return of the King... of Ruin

I'd say it's pretty clear. That NPC was the single most lore-filled NPC in 1.xx, and no one ever bothered to talk to him again after the fight. It's a shame, 'cause he had loads and loads of info to share.

WOW, this took me a while. But I found it.
As, LlenCoram said - if you talked to him outside quests and asked him 'Class in session' he would talk to you about specific things in Eorzea's history.
Here are the main things http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...le-Spoilers%29
And more specifically:
There you go, if in doubt check out the NPC once the 1.0 servers go live again again.I have studied these waves in great detail, and discovered that they can be used to reconstruct an image of their source. And I believe their source is a tower! An enormous, vast, gigantic, underground tower! Do you not see? <sigh> Of course you don't... It could only be the lost tomb of Xandes─the first emperor of Allag of whom I spoke mere moments ago. But wait, there it more to tell! You see, it is impossible that a normal building, however large, could release so much ethereal energy. An immense crystal on the other hand─that most certainly could. Putting these observations together, I had no choice but to conclude that the ancients' seemingly fanciful references to the tomb being wrought of crystal were not so fanciful after all!
