The changes on the success rate were made public in the live letter earlier this week.Is there a post form a dev or community rep detailing the changes.
I know they were making it easier but I don't remember hearing about them changing the tiers.
I'm curious as to how they're going to balance that out. Are they going to make certain types of materia more difficult to get rather than certain tiers or is it just going to be easier all around.
Personally I like the idea of being able to make my own really special super gear. I like the materia system. I think to balance out the materia system with the drop system they should drop armor that enhances and focuses on ability enhancement while materia can focus on stat enhancement.
Yoshi-P made a side comment on it in the last letter. There are a couple of docs out there with translations. He said they are going to consolidate the Materia back to having a single value for each tier and that everyone's materia would be set to the highest stat. I welcome this... Materia in inventory was getting out of hand.
Awful decision. I think Materia was fine as it was. Why make it more casual? To suit who's end? I didn't really see anything complaining about materia; we all understood the risks. If you don't want to risk it, simply buy it and let someone else take that risk for you beforehand. Things like this make me wonder if they're trying to water everything down such that it's more accessible for everyone. That would make a pretty boring game to me where not that much work is involved in getting the best of things.
Ah cool thanks for the info.Yoshi-P made a side comment on it in the last letter. There are a couple of docs out there with translations. I actually agree with this. When they first announced a different tier system for materia I was mainly thinking "Oh great! Not only does RNG rear it's ugly head again but it also comes with the bonus job trait 'Inventory Killer'." Also considering we'll have considerably less inventory space I double welcome the change.
I didn't do much materia creation in 1.0 because I still have some classes to level but I'm actually looking forward to more economic activities in ARR. I'll probably be doing that while waiting to get groups together for Crystal Tower / Bahamut's Maze. Then again, I might not have to wait so long with the content finder.
Let's hope it's better than XIV's search function this time around, or at the very least, let's hope people actually use it.
Well, I was more talking about people ingame. Just in a general sense, when talking to others about materia it's usually seen as being a do or die thing. I've never met anyone in my gaming experience who said they thought it was too hard to get a triple meld and that SE ought to improve the chances or make everything materia related easier on us. On the forums, it doesn't exactly surprise me to see people wanting easy mode everything; disappointing? Yeah.
You're going to have actually difficult content in 2.0 that will test your skill rather than farming materia which is a test for luck and basement dwelling.

Anyway, I had this: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...Materia-Reborn But its ok, lets continue to make multiple threads all over the place ^^
The removal of the stat fluctuation, reduction in impact on multi-melds, and increase in multi-meld success rates was needed and should have been done a long time ago. The current melding system makes many dropped gear unworthy of equipping.

People talked about ingame quite a bit. Usually after they just got done blowing up tons of gil, I mean materia and gear. I've never heard anyone say they should make triple melds easier to obtain, just that people are tired of losing to RNG, RNG in all aspects of the game doesn't a fun game make. RNG affected Converting and it affected Melding, so of course people are welcoming "easy" mode. But it doesn't ACTUALLY change the system that much. People with the gil to blow on triple and quad melds will have them and people who do not have the gil won't. So the system won't be changing that much, nothing easy about it. Just merely giving people who don't have the gil, materia, or time to blow a chance to buy it from the AH straight out.Well, I was more talking about people ingame.
