Or, I guess the easiest route would be just to have an option for players to turn *boing boing* off

Keep in mind that this game cannot be calibrated for any single player, and the medium is not you.

    - Are you concerned about female objectification?
    - Are you concerned with how far the FFXIV team will go with sexism?
    - Does it in any way effect your enjoyment of the game?
    - Has it ever effected how you have been treated as a female avatar?
    -no
    -no
    -no
-never played as a female, I prefer to play as my own gender in most games and cases.

I don't treat female characters any differently than male ones, so none of this impacts my experience. Everyone is a player in the game and the player is all that matters to me.

By adding a bust size option (which people requested- I don't know what percent of the requesting players were real life males/females in relation to the actual number of male/female players though) they increased this objectification. Since busts vary in real life, it makes sense to allow it to vary in the game. None of the bust options are ridiculous or excessive. I really don't see problems in the game in this area. TONs of games are a lot worse- especially any scifi FPS with female characters in it.

I see more males in subligar than I do females when in Ul'dah, food for thought. The most useful gear (Darklight) is pretty well covered up.

Personally, if we're talking about the Coliseum gear, I feel like that was almost put in as a gag on other MMO's that do have extremely skimpy armor. Thankfully, it was equally terribly skimpy on males as it was on females. It was rather sex neutral, in this case. Otherwise, most of the armor (aside from some that is supposed to be 'sexy', like bikini's and coatees), has been rather neutral. I haven't really seen any sexism in the actual game storyline, other than some kind of traditional bits with gender roles in a few of the stories.

When I first started playing mmo's, female gamers were a lot less seen. Even if you were a guy playing a female character, it wasn't apparent, and people didn't talk about their gender. A lot of people assumed you were whatever you were playing, or you were just a dude (which still happens). My fiance and I used to have a lot of fun messing with people who were hitting on either of us, depending on who was playing a girl or guy character. However, at this time, we were much younger, and in the last few years, this sort of behavior in online games seems to have slowed down quite dramatically. You don't see nearly as many people just hitting on female characters in games anymore. At least not in games like XI, WoW, and XIV. (I can't speak for games like Second Life or something though.)

I am not worried about female objectification at this time, but I would not say I would dismiss it if I felt it was apparent. Normal players who are just playing the game aren't going to have issues. But at the same time of worrying about objectification, I've seen many times women using their gender as a reason for them to act out, or try and get people to give them in game items/money; offering erotic chat, ect in exchange for them. And yes, some guys bite this, and it's their own fault if they do. This sort of behaviour is something else, it sadly helps to keep a gender gap between players.

I've been treated in some strange ways playing female characters. I'm a friendly player. I help people out when I can, and I can be rather talkative due to my ADD. For some reason, people see this as flirting. As a male character, this does not happen. I have only had one instance where, when someone realized my real gender, they began to act differently toward me, and I sadly had to shut them down. (All I did was mention my fiance, and they stopped flirting, AND stopped speaking to me at all. We'd been talking for months before he realized my real gender.)
