Now, it would be SO awesome if they turned this trailer into the initial in-engine cutscene for ARR, with our character instead of the lame warrior dude...

It wouldn't be that hard to do, just replace the WAR guy's model and query the character folder we are logged in to and add it to the game, just lengthen it to show us standing around wondering wtf is going on, then bam back to the future... (DeLorian must be included in the CS)
no is not that simple, that cutscene is not from using the games engine, if they want to they need to make a new one in ARR. so here hoping they will!It wouldn't be that hard to do, just replace the WAR guy's model and query the character folder we are logged in to and add it to the game, just lengthen it to show us standing around wondering wtf is going on, then bam back to the future... I did.
But then again, it doesn't take a lot to make me tear up in movies, tv shows or video games. I think I might have too much empathy.
Yep. I seriously doubt most PCs can run that cutscene in real time (which would be required for a model-swap, not to mention that they'd have to have ALL the possible chara creation options redesigned in CG detail, which would be a massive undertaking).
They'd have to create a simplified in-engine version of the cutscene, which is what i meant. And It's not really an easy or small task. Part of it can be recycled by swapping models with simpler ones, but a lot would have to be redone anew.
This. It'd be nice to see our own characters sure, but a full CG video vs game engine rendering are on two whole different levels.
To render the End of an Era at 1900 x 1080 (the highest res I believe it was made in), it'd take at last half a day, if not more. Those characters are millions of polygons, and the lighting and ambient also require significant amount of resources.
So yeah..they'd have to redraw the entire scene with more simplified visuals. While I'd love to see this with my chara, I do believe they could spend the time elsewhere, such as making a "Beginning" featuring our characters using the game engine.
I am happy I got to see a fully rendered Thancred though.... *^^*

Well yeah... I was really dumbing it down, expecting people to think they would have to use the in game engine but once they did that it's just a simple model swap that uses the character folder to insert your character in.
It's not a simple model swap. The whole scene would have to be rewritten to fit the in-game environment, animations would have to be remade to fit the in-game model skeletons, there are a lot of models in the trailer that don't exist in the game at all, and would have to be remade, and lighting would have to be completely repurposed to fit lower computational resources and different models.
It's a big job all right.
I thought the same thing at first, but then I realized the ARR intro has to fit new players coming into the game for the first time. So they can't start off assuming you survived the End. They have to start whole new story lines. ... I will miss the old story. I played six characters through those events just so I could reexperience them..... All the way to Lining on a Prayer at the end.... Beautiful.
