One more thing, it was someone mentioning Phantom Train from FFVI that put this in my head. If they do add phoenix downs, they should implement them in a way so we can use them against undead monsters like in previous FFs. This could add a whole layer of strategy that is currently missing from FFXIV (using items against monsters.)

I would welcome the use of it and also a reraise item. At the moment if you die far away it's a long run back to the area you are at sometimes. It would be nice to be able to reraise at the position you die at.

Like a Reraiser from FFXI? Or equipment with Reraise as an enchantment?

I think a reraise elixir would be nice as a drop or for alchemist to make. I think a reraise item is also acceptable because crafters can make. I know I would save up hard earned gil to buy one for myself. It would be a nice item to have in game, especially since the mode of transportation is walking currently.

I really like the idea with the restrictions mentioned. It shouldn't be better than raise, and be somewhat hard to obtain. Which might make be a tricky thing for alchemists to be producing. If it's a difficult to make item, they would be well within their rights to charge heavily for it. That might upset the economy, particularly if the other crafting classes don't have something camparitable to sell.

I remember the most commonly used potions in FFXI were Silent Oil and Prism Powder. I would have a stack of these on me at all times, up until I hit lvl 30 or so. But, I agree potions in general should be more useful and phoenix down would be a goal/grail for crafters.

The problem I see however, is that if this was introduced as a recipe, many people would probably jump to ALC to craft it. To prevent the Phoenix Down from being abused for either profit or leveling, I think the NM idea is nice, but maybe it would also require higher crafting skills on other DoH classes as well. For instance ALC for its spell-like quality, WEA for the down itself, and BLS for materia (if it is later included), could be required to complete the recipe. I also believe if it were to come from a NM, it should be Rare/Ex, or if crafted, Rare only. Additionally, (though I was never crazy about it in XI), this may be a good use of the charge system, where one Phoenix Down has x number of charges with a reset timer of a week.

    Just a thought.

Considering anyone can use Resurrect and Raise why would we need Phoenix Downs that badly? Besides to possibly save time if someone dies mid combat.

The OP mentioned that it would be for if no one had raise. But you are correct that it might not be useful enough to go through the trouble of implimenting it, as it stands.

I honestly don't care for the ability switching myself. It makes having different classes kind of pointless. But that's a different topic.

As I mentioned before, you might find yourself in a situation where no one has CON high enough to have a raise spell. Furthermore, because it would be an item instead of a spell, it wouldn't be susceptible to silence. And as others have stated, simply making them might be a good goal for crafters.
