In regards to the current and future fashions of FFXIV.

    I love it!

One of my favorite aspects of Final Fantasy XIV is being able to wear almost any style of equipment, even if it is above my rank/level. The fashions of some of these equipment are fantastic and I'd really like to see options in the future. Velveteen fashion for example, has me absolutely thrilled, as well as some of the classy-looking jackets. I'm not suggesting that there is anything wrong, but that my interest is piqued when I find a game such as this this type of fashion.

Specifically, one of the styles I'd like to see an improvement upon (or rather, additions upon) is the 18th Century Late Baroque and Rococo Fashion, 1750-1800 style of fashion. I've seen that some of our current fashions have received a bit of influence from this time period and it is pleasing on the eyes. An example of what I currently see in-game from this time period would be the male on the right: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...am_Hallett.jpg Currently, I can almost reproduce this man's fashion.

And the Archer fashions? Just as great! I really feel "in character" as I play with help of the fashion.

Note that I have been "living under a rock", so to say, for years and playing MMORPGs that look incredibly cartoonish. This is a great improvement compared to my past experiences with MMO fashion and I'd really like to see more.

The last MMORPG (I'll try to keep this anonymous) that I played had very interesting graphical work in-game and for equipment fashions, but eventually started coming out with cartoonish fashions designed for kids. Mohawks and wild hair (afros and Einstein-crazed haircuts, too) and gas masks (wut????), and rock star metal and spike studded leather jackets... It murdered the sense of adventure for me.

There are a few things that I'd like to not see for future updates, which would be "ridiculous" looking fashion. Vague is that description, but I think the above paragraph can help describe the kinds of things I'm not interested in seeing. Based on my past experience with Final Fantasy series, I think it is safe to say that I don't have to worry about that crazy stuff happening.

I do understand that this company has heavy Japanese influence and I do not find Japanese fashion difficult on the eyes. Actually, I find it enjoyably. Many of the fashions from FFXI thrilled me, especially the kimonos that came with the goldfish event in FFXI were on my "WANT LIST" for many months and I made sure to subscribe and play to get it during that month.

Certainly, there is a possibility that I am one of few that might feel this way and I don't expect this thread to go far. One could say that I often spend too much time I suppose I'd only like to show my support as it appears that equipment fashion is already heading in a great direction. I trust that in the future, SE will please me with a interesting fashion sense for my character.

I... I think this is the right location for this... It is the Items/Synthesis section, right? I'd like synthesis of more fashion.

Seems that the upcoming fashion will be more on the fantasy side. Perhaps we will even get some sci-fi influence from the Garlean empire too.

I want to wear that evil armor so bad... The current High-rank or NM armor makes everyone look like paladins. Nothing is 'Insidious' enough.

I am certainly a fan of the later-medieval fashion used in this game.

What I would like to see is perhaps some new robe designs. A houppelande would be nice. For those who don't know what I'm talking about:

    It's all in the sleeves!

I approve of this want. ^-^ More clothes and more of a medieval + steampunk kind of feel to it. It reminds me of Final Fantasy all over. Metal and cloth. Odd fabrics that look ancient, yet still fashionable with the folk of this game. I think of characters like Balthier from FFXII and some of the armors and such from FFT. FFXIII is too modern, so places like Ivalice could give some good inspiration for clothes for this game, imo.

I quite like the overall design philosophy. It figures, as (if I'm not mistaken) Akihiko Yoshida is the art director, and I've been a fan of his since FFT--especially Vagrant Story and FFXII. I hope they continue with the armor as it has been, looking slightly fantastical but also practical, rather than WoW style GIANT GLOWY FOOTBALL PADS OF DOOM® or a bit plain like FFXI's original armor. If I had a hope for future armor design, it would be to better differentiate different class types (which they seem to be doing) and to add some capes, because I just love capes and it'd be a great fit for the physics engine in this game.

I like playing paladins partly because I like standing out in shining white/silver armor from the dark knights in evil black/purple/red chainmail/plate, the rangers/thiefs in brown/green leather, and the mages in any color with flowing robes. However, as mentioned earlier in this thread a lot of the endgame gear atm looks paladin-y, which kind of takes out the stark visual pally tank-types usually have. The design art they've shown is quite promising, though.

I'd be a little bored if the equipment stayed so bland. It's possible to make eye catching gear that goes beyond "Breast-plate over tunic." The blackmage concept art was really nice, but slops? Again? Who ever enjoyed the look of snow pants? It over all looked so bulky and unattractive. Guildwars 2 had some gorgeous coat designs for the men, and I'd like to see more sleek designs for the female characters to wear too that don't rely on cleavage. ): The original picture release for the Coatee and the new NM jacket drop in patch 1.17...the male version's...baw. I just really wanted that for the females as well.

I am a female, and I'm not an over the top feminist, but I really don't see the appeal. I would just really like to see more unisex-ization of the armor like there has been. Skirts are nice, but I don't see why they couldn't have made the jackets and Coatees same all around. D: Or at least have the option.

    Especially for those of us playing Lalafell females ... we don't have the cleavage to rely on anyhow ;-;

I personally avoid coatees like the plague for that reason in addition to the ones you mention above. The harnesses were bad enough, but then along came the coatees ...
