Perhaps it's simply a remnant of the quest code at work. To me, that seems like the most likely explanation.

Gotta agree with OP, UNLESS as some people have theorized, these mobs are impossibly hard on purpose to drive us away from the city. I realize this is the end of the world and that it should feel hopeless, and that we're not supposed to be winning anything, but it's also a live event that's lasting for ten days. There should be something in the event to make me want to log in, and right now there's no reason to, unless its to explore and say final good byes to 1.0. I logged in last night, and it was really fun, because while you died quite frequently, you were able to actually DO damage, and not just feel like your punching a wall. We were able to repel waves of monsters, and I felt like I was actually participating and contributing. I logged in tonight..and man...it was like..why even bother? I'll be here for the next 5 hours and I'll be lucky if any of these mobs go down.

That being said, if the point is to NOT fight the mobs, people don't seem to be getting the picture. No one was very interested in hearing about trying to figure out alternatives. It seemed to be just fight, do 10 dmg if you're lucky, die, return, rinse and repeat. I'm afraid what's going to happen is that people are going to just stop logging in, instead of trying new things to figure out if there's anything else to this event. Then there will definitely not be a reason to log in, because whatever we're supposed to be doing, I'm sure that it involves EVERYONE, not just a couple people.

maybe.. but it still seems obvious to me the mobs are not our target.... why keep increasing the difficulty of the beasts if they were just suppose to be the target to the point that they 1 shot us.... they want to expel us from the cities, the cities are lost, and also if we are to be fighting in that area hinted at we should be "marching" to it to fight, not camping in a city like everyone has for 2 years now. I could be wrong, but I am sure we are not suppose to be in the cities.

It's not the cities though, it's JUST Ul'dah. Last I checked, shortly after the update, Limsa was completely free of monsters. Dunno about Grid.

The anima rate increase could just be so that people are able to explore without the harsh limitations.

I'd love for it to be more than that but at this point it just doesn't seem like it.

I'm willing to bet the end cutscene will involve us being hopelessly driven from the cities enmasse, and when that happens, we can actually feel like we were a part of the hopeless destruction that occurred, rather than just spectators that could do nothing. We can say we tried, and we battled, and although we could ward a few off, we just couldn't keep it up and lost. Our resources were cut off (repairs), our companies were spread thin... etc.

Others have mentioned that there might be a point to travel. Perhaps there is. I'm wondering, though, if what we may find out there will just be a collection of easter eggs from the dev team, like the similarity between the Wandering Minstrel and Yoshi P. Maybe we will discover a few new things if we explore, but I doubt any major story will be advanced only by exploring... simply because a lot of people will be upset if they don't discover it before the end, and never can. They want to make this accessible to everyone, and they want the 50's to feel just as helpless as the 1's. (With a bajillion mobs, anyone will die in a few hits. Tanks can't take on 20 Bixies, for example.)

What will the end bring? We will somehow save ourselves, or the deities will save us, despite Dalamud falling. What if we are saved, while the monsters that ravaged our cities were destroyed by Dalamud? This would explain the changes in the terrain, both in a physical way and a habitual one... What if the beastmen that were once friendly with us (Goblins, Qiqirn, Sylph) are angry with us because they believed we have caused this tragedy? What if they hate races of men because humanoids destroyed the world? This would explain a few events which seem to be somewhat disjointed unless connected in an abstract way. (The beastmen attacking the cities prior to the final save will explain why they become hostile in 2.0. If you didn't witness the event: it was controlled by a GM who warned everyone to step outside the gates and kill beastmen attackers. In Ul'dah, it was goblins).

It's all speculation, but this is my guess.

My only thing is that in the ARR cutscene it looked to me that the adventurer's were on the field of battle fighting the VIIth legion in the new area. So we should already have been expeled.

If there is nothing 'hidden' i still like it.
In a real apocalypse, there would be people fighting impossible enemies like in Ul'dah,
and there would be people who would turn to prayer in hopes of something.
Still, i hope there IS something.
Today's mini-patch might not be the last either.

huh? Why do you think I want to win? Why do you think i care about recognition?

I want to see the end, the end is a struggle and a long battle.

It is not a boring ass auto attack on the same mob for 5 hours until it hits 0 then the next mob spawns.

What I see visually is not an epic finale i was expecting.

What I have experienced is not struggle or ending, considering i can just re-raise infinitely it doesnt give me that "this is the end" feeling.

There is nothing exciting going on.

The world isnt falling apart, there is a couple mobs loose in the city, how frantic lol.

Now more might come but i aint holding my breath out, just how i feel about it so far, its boring now and maybe it wont tomorrow or next week, who knows.

This is so dumb. The game is over, you can stop playing now if this bonus end of the world stuff isn't to your liking.
