It's cool that they are looking at introducing missing genders. It will be easier for them to do it now rather than later, so they should probably capitalise on the window of opportunity while it's still available. But at the same time I feel like it isn't a huge priority. Still, I wouldn't complain if they put resources into this as opposed to anything else.
Before you guys get your hopes up, you ought probably to realise that they merely said they will "do their best". And as the current state of FFXIV might suggest, their best isn't usually what one might expect. It might so happen that they need to drop development of the missing genders in need of focussing on more important features.

They have an entire team dedicated to Characters if you are to believe Yoshida's most recent Letter. Which I do.
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
Still, SE has to probably remodel all the existing gear sets as well as create the models and animate them (hopefully not from scratch), so it could be a massive undertaking. And given that the team devoted to making it could instead be working on modeling new gear as well as new monster models or hairstyles, etc, then it serves to suggest that having the team work to create the missing genders comes at a cost to development of the rest of the game.
My point being that, despite having every intention of implementing the missing races, they might have to drop them (or at least some of them) in favour of other features.
MidgardZolom, I stand with you! this is so very awesome.... (Lynnfoxx from Eorzeapedia)
read your updated letter and saw the dev post...
I am gonna make a harem of catboys for myself! yay for female gamers who finally have their objects of desires!
I'd suggest you go watch the "Making Of" video they have for XIV about equipment.
They make 1 Armor, fit it to the body then use "Alpha Shaving" to make it look different. 1 In Game model ends up being used like a dozen times with slight variations and different textures.
Quote system ate my message up

from this statement I don't think you saw the development system they use for character creation now.... its not like XI where they actually had to make individual armors for every individual body type and race.... in there new development system it showed in the video it took them seconds to change a clothing to fit another model.Still, SE has to probably remodel all the existing gear sets as well as create the models and animate them (hopefully not from scratch), so it could be a massive undertaking. I had that video in mind while I was replying and therefore said "hopefully not from scratch" because I envisioned them tweaking the armours using their engine the way that video showed. The fact remains that they still have to fit all the gear though, as well as create oh so many models (for the actual races). It's probably easier said than done.I'd suggest you go watch the "Making Of" video they have for XIV about equipment.

I'm not trying to dash your dreams or anything, I'm just saying, they might have better things to do.
