Tonberry, as a playable race.

Okay, so I spaced out your wall of text for the sake of clarification and have encountered a number of argumentative errors in the way you try to build your arguments against Tonberries as a playable race

So I'm going to chop it up and try and make sense of it all while addressing each of your concerns along the way by bringing up solutions to each problem:

Thesis:


1st Argument: Lack of Language



Tonberries are silent, but that does not mean they are incapable of a high form of intelligence. I will even go as far to say that, given the ability to speak, silence can be considered the most intelligent route to take. It may just be that Tonberries are so much more intelligent than the other Eorzean races that they prefer not to communicate with them let alone meddle in their petty trifles...

Isn't one of the side effects of the echo the ability to understand every language because instead of hearing the words, we hear what the individual is trying to portray. Its a sort of mind reading in that we feel what they are saying instead of hearing it. Could be applied to Tonberries in that their silence is actually a form of communication that we can pick up on.

Not that I think Tonberries should be playable, just an explanation to counter some peoples arguments.

As for the lore behind why they would be suddenly accepted as equals with the 5 races could that a sect of their tribe emerged and helped the city-states recover after the Dalamud incident. Their help over the 5 year lapse could have earned them the respect of the other races. But this could be applied to any new race added.

As for the echo I am not sure if it allows one to understand all languages or simply the language of the moogles.

I like it as much as the next person, but you have to think about the system that it uses, it even allows you to control a super boss in a lot of FF games lol, that's why I consider it an exception due to the fact you can control everything, even optional characters like Sazh, Lightning and Nabaat.

So it's not to "use it against" your idea, it's just you can't use it as a basis given that the system itself was a lot more expansive. For example we're clearly not going to get Behemoths as a playable race, but we controlled the hell out of them in XIII-2.

You don't control them they are pets, there is a difference between an pc and a npc and all the mobs in 13-2 are NPC, even the ones that fight with you.

Prerequisite for asking for a new race:

Draw/photoshop/fabricate a picture (or find someone else to do it) of your proposed race doing the following:

*Jumping with a spear while in DRG AF
*Shooting a bow while in BRD AF
*Wielding a Sword and Shield while wearing Heavy Darklight gear
*Crafting while wearing a Dodore Doublet and Cobalt Mesail

If you can't present your race in each of those 4 simple circumstances (without it looking completely absurd), then you haven't put enough thought or effort into your race.



Most people don't even need to see a picture to know that a tonberry in DRG AF jumping around would look A) ridiculous, or B) nothing like a Tonberry.

Ditto with Qiqirn in Heavy Darklight.

Rogedryn completion, amaljas we already see them with job classes, heavy armors would be badass . Clothes would have to be stylized for the race to fit lol.

"But they're not tonberries!" I hear you cry; Look closely. Look at the size, the shape, the stance... Go there yourself as Paladin and run through the mobs with Hallowed Ground, take a good look.
