You and I are in the same boat, lol.^this![]()
Or they can't find 7 ppl willing to work to beat him...or procrastinated...or whatever. Which makes them hate those who can.
I am super-super super hoping my ls can beat him this weekend...I have my entire weekend planned around it...seriously. It took me until last Sunday to even convince them to try it. I pug it whenever I can. I have basically been soloing this/running it like I'm training for a marathon...my lala is ready. I will beat him....
But if I don't get him cleared...either because we run out of time before the save, or people give up, or we don't get our full event times in...I will know I did everything in my power....and I will not belittle those who had the talent and friends to get it done.
Verily may have wanted to show this, so I'll steal his thunder: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=cRTwNRPZjj0
I think this was from the day of attempts prior to our 8:48 win. Turned out to be suicide, but it was pretty fun and gave us more than enough confidence that we had the damage needed.

Did anyone else ever try to get a speed run on this? We gave this a passing thought that we may try to prefect it for merc runs but the idea died pretty quick.
I like everyone from BG I've talked with, you guys are pretty kick ass all and all but I don't know what your going for exactly or what kind of place you believe you want to have in the community. You can assume your going to get some resentment from the community who do not know you personally when you style yourself as "the best". (whatever that really means, ya know. For example I think my shell is the best at having fun, and thats most important to me.)
...and why are you so worried about it anyhow? I dunno guys, but cheers to you all and congrats on this regardless. It is an astounding accomplishment and you probably blew the dev's minds.

I don't think any of us are worried, but we do find the hate and free PR pretty funny, and some of our members do want to make a concerted effort to clear up any misconceptions there might be about us.Did anyone else ever try to get a speed run on this? We're certainly elitists, but since when does that need to be a dirty word? We see no shame in wanting to strive to be the best or among the best. Meanwhile, those of us who want to help others will continue to do so regardless of the reception.

Hey carraway, do you guys recommend tanking nael where he ports and having the whms adjust rather than pulling him to the offset middle / somewhere in particular?

If DPS is a concern at all, then I do recommend tanking him wherever he ports. The tank can only generate so much enmity if he's not in melee range. However, a lot of groups are successful with just tanking him in the middle (so that no matter where he ports, the tank is not in danger of getting hit by Lunar Dynamo). I still think that the backline is going to have to adjust if he ports directly opposite the backline's position, putting them at-risk for Lunar Dynamo unless they move.
I would say that if you have any issues with properly skipping the first golem spawn (if that's your goal) or if the fight is going on too long, causing death by attrition, or if you're simply just timing out, you might want to try having the tank run up to wherever Nael ports and having the DPS start right away (while dodging Thermionic Beam/Burst). If time isn't an issue, you can certainly try just maintaining one anchor spot for slightly easier positioning.
Vaguely related: a lot of groups also just let Nael fully charge his Dive and prepare for it with AoE Sanguine Rite/Sentinel/etc. This precludes the possibility of anyone getting hit by Lunar Dynamo when coming down the stairs after Dive, but it also cuts potential DPS time.
^
Our method was to keep him fixed to a local area by the tank. (south end) This seemed to cause his teleports to be in more predictable locations for easy group adjustment. There is a fixed number of locations he can port to. These areas are not too hard to learn and they are always the same so you can know where to be by the ground no matter where he teleports. However the tank needs to dodge dynamo in this situation.
We also did not force a dive. Just gather buff, ride it out and kill, pushing him down in 20% chunks each dive.
Well I think you can expect that by styling yourself that way you would attract that kind of player base to you. It seems kinda contradictory to me that you'd want to try and be elitists and still garner respect from the community.. but I'm having trouble putting that into words to fully describe it. This is offset by the fact that I wouldn't classify the members from BG that I've meet as elitists at all, from my experiences you seem more than willing to help others from a wide range of player and gear ability.. and if thats true for the rest of you why do you encourage the label upon yourselves?I don't think any of us are worried, but we do find the hate and free PR pretty funny, and some of our members do want to make a concerted effort to clear up any misconceptions there might be about us.

I guess it takes all types because my shell TwoPaths probably wouldn't exist if it wasn't for all the elitists endgame shells on XI. Believe me I'm one that strongly believes that being a good player comes down to a lot more than any kind of natural ability one would find good reason to boast about.
