"Thy life is a river to bear rapture and sorrow
To listen to suffer to entrust until tomorrow
In one fleeting moment, from the land doth life flow
Yet in one fleeting moment for the new leaf doth grow"
Its really apples and oranges. Western and Eastern do usually take different approaches to story telling. Western does focus a lot on background lore and usually has an avatar to represent yourself and interact with the world. Eastern usually has set characters and focuses mostly on them, and learn about the world through their perspective in story telling.
What I always liked about FFXI and FFXIV is they brought the best in both forms of storytelling and put it into one. I hope this is the same to 2.0's approach in story telling.
