wrong question from the poolNo, classes having too many skills and not having any definition came from players first, so was auto attack. Just about every change to the original game systems that were made came from threads buried under back to probably page 500 and beyond by now of general discussion.
It was all due to one question in the first major players poll : "Would we be ok with drastic changes made to Eorzia" or something along that line.
It was more this question:

Why thank you. Only those that were around for the first major polls know or remember that it was we that sent the game down the path the it is on. Can't blame a man for listenening to the majority.
I still miss that whole 'spamming actions' deal. It was close to being a skill-based combat system like TERA, all while having a way better "Rest of the game" than that lol. But they blew it . . . . imo.

nothing changed about spamming actions except we dont have to spam 1 anymore. spamming 1 and then waiting for tp while also waiting for stamina to do a ws wasn't skill, it was dumb.Why thank you. Oh but we dont spam them 'as fast' tho. There aint no MMO where you dont spam actions, unless all monters die in 1 hit in that MMO.
once stamina hit 0 and everything was on cool-down because of it, action spamming slowed tremendously. and the fact that when stamina was so low we had to make a choice between using a basic attack or a weapon skill was silly.
Stamina plus enter spam 1 to me actually felt slower then it does now.
Also you can equip throwing weapons now to key 1 if you enjoy hitting it mindlessly.
I really liked the idea of guild marks, and was upset when they took that out of the system. I liked how you were able to train and experience different classes in order to obtain their skills to mix and match into other classes. I feel since they took this away, and had class reforms, and took the physical level away - it just doesn't make the game experience as dynamic and enjoyable as far as having a custom character with mix and match strengths gained through hard work.
As a BLM, I also miss all the different spells and elements that were merged or phased out in class reform. I liked being a "fire Mage" and getting gear that enhanced my fire magic. Now the only attack spell that can be used 99% of the time is lightning as the fire and ice spells do aoe automatically. And what happened to the drain spells?
In my opinion class uniqueness was far more obtainable in the early stages of the game than they are now with everything seeming so cookie cut and the same for all classes. I am all for gear being more class specific, but now so much abilities.

You could attack with light slash faster than auto attack with a sword currently... I think it was faster with stamina. yea, but if you kept using light slash then you would never accumulate enough stamina to use WS. you would have to take a break from hitting any buttons at all just to start playing again.
