    I agree, Armory is pretty much the sole redeeming feature of 1.0, the only one that nobody got any problems with. And we got it exactly because this is Tanaka's game, not anyone else's. If Yoshida was in charge from the start, we'd probably ended up with something more western, more traditional like WoW's system, where it's one class per character.

    Now, I am a big fan of Yoshida, but judging from all the interviews and comments he's made, the man didn't play FFXI much, if at all, and he doesn't seem to hold it in high regard either. Japanese interviewers often attempt to draw parallels between FFXI and FFXIV: ARR, and whenever they do that, Yoshida is noticeably unenthusiatic and vague. It usually goes like "oh, will this thing work like that thing in FFXI?" - "yeah, I guess, maybe... no".

    I can see between this thread of mine and the other called "SE stop doing the "norm"" that it's not just me who is afraid that ARR will deviate from what the game currently is and what it had, and that Yoshi is just remaking it as a "standard" MMO.

    I am afraid that in the long run we will miss Tanaka.

    I first experienced this game in awe when it was still in beta. Such a beautiful game. I learned to love it, even with its flaws.

    I, for once, loved the concept of a different physical level from the class/job/weapon or skill you were using. It was a powerful concept
    There was nothing "powerful" about this concept. It made job levels less meaningful, and also hte physical level was pointless because you would max it out or nearly max it out with one or two classes and it would then cease to have any meaning. The only real benefit the system had was making your 2nd and subsequent classes a little easier to level.

    The only thing I liked from the (very) original version was the very original battle system, with its ATB-like feel. I kinda thought that could have been developed further, but it was ditched pretty quickly (even though it was ditched by Tanaka's team, not Yoshida's).

    (context: original battle system meaning the first one, not original meaning new idea)

    I don't say this to mean I didn't like the game at all, but rather that I like the improvements that are being made a lot more.

    There were some useless abilities but i liked more the ability from class before yoshida changed it. Also i don't like games that use quest to level, so i love the camp system when you need to grind to level, sadly the party seek system was lame.
