Relic weapons were in no way rarer than D ring.
And getting a relic weapon was ALL GIL. Killing the animated weapon and Dynamis lord was a joke. Some people has TWO relics. So it was just getting the 150~200 mil and buying coins.
Salvage was in no way easy. I gave you a simple version, it was more involved actually even getting to what dropped what you needed and killing it + the low drop rate. It took a LOT of money to get the body pieces which led to a whole RMT market on getting the khorma ores needed. And when it was 1st released it was so hard it was almost impossible.I also think the upgrading system is nice but the salvage one was a bit 'too easy': Instanced drop from 3 things + decent amount of money for a piece does not seem to lead to such a rare gear as you want to have. More demanding items (lot more of same item, some very rare items (crafted? so you also have to gather the craft mats), reward from a very difficult fight) for an upgrade and different upgrade stages. Whatever involves being playing in the process is not a problem for casuals (hopefully).
But I agree with you on the crafting part a lot! With the crafting system in this game there are a lot of things possible.
Fair enough but then that should be rare enough to please hardcore gamers as gathering the gils can be time consuming. The principle should work and please everyone.

I was trying to think of really something that would take years even for hardcore gamers to do it (if they want to buy from RMTs, that's another issue but even then, they have the rare items so they get what they want: Special gears that casual won't get in a month).Salvage was in no way easy. I still think the principle would work, can be tweaked to any level of 'difficulty'/time sink as far as one plays during the process!
Actually, we should lock this thread because obviously, this is going nowhere and start a new one with a new system on how to have rare gears while actively playing the game.
