ARR is a MMO and they are using the standard MMO UI, there's a reason it's standard pretty much just like CoD set the standard for the FPS layout on controllers.

My thoughts on it? Well I haven't tried it yet but I can asume it will work like other MMO games and I welcome that, any other modern MMO out there have an infinitely better UI than current one IMO. People like to say it's a FF game first and foremost but I don't agree with that, it's a MMO game set in the FF universe so they have to get the MMO part right.

But from what I have seen I love the new UI.

I'm not one to typically nitpick the hell out of a post, but on this subject, I must inform you that you are far from correct. COD did not set the standard for anything.
    • Halo: 11/15/2001
    • Medal of Honor: Frontline: 11/9/2002
    • Counter Strike: 11/18/2003
    • Halo 2: 11/9/2004
    • Call of Duty: Finest Hour: 11/16/2004

Halo most certainly set the standard for "Xbox". Which continued onto Xbox 360. The first COD, was PC only. I never played those terrible games, so, I was not even sure what COD was first on Xbox but it appears to be Finest Hour.

Anyways, I'm not trying to be a jerk, I just can't stand by idly while someone doesn't acknowledge Halo for all it achieved.

I'm not saying Halo did nothing for the fps games but I'm talking about the button layout on the controller, most fps games after CoD4 have used the same button layout as CoD4. Aim down sight on R1, crouch/prone on circle/B and so on. Halo 1-3 as far as I know don't even have aiming down the sight. Like I said, those games have probably been a big influence in the fps area but CoD4 did pretty much set the standard for the controller layout for FPS games on console these days.

I am by no means saying that CoD reinvented FPS games.

Fair enough, but I will say I don't completely consider COD/MW/BF as "FPS". They are much more war simulators.

I suppose the only axis which the topic would exist on is Iron sights.

Although not on counsel Originally I really think the granddaddy of all Multiplayer FPS needs to mentioned.

Quake III Arena. December 2, 1999 on PC
    Dreamcast Oct 22, 2000
    Playstation 2 March 26, 2001

So clearly it came before everything on your list. Plus it just had a kick ass sound track.
Sonic Mayhem puts together some of the best adrenaline pumping tracks. id really got
a lot right and set the ball rolling in the Multiplayer FPS genre.

    Goldeneye is 1997.

Anyway, a lot of people seem to have issues with looks. If you don't like the new job icons, change em back to the old ones

Goldeneye is also not what I would call multiplayer. IE. needs internet connection and the person
your playing is not in the same room as you.

While I would say Golden eye was the best FPS if it's time on the N64, It's is still the same
game format of Wolfenstine. Wolfenstine came out in 1992 on MS-DOS. You can keep going
back and find FPS like games, However It I'll points back to id Software as the true inventors
    of the modern FPS format.

The PS3 UI doesn't really matter to me. But really any UI doesn't bother me. I don't play
Games hoping they are like other games. I play games by the rules set in that game. I really
doesn't matter to me what other games do. any way you look at in you have to learn the
lay-out, rules, and limitations of any game if you want to be good at it.

Actually, go back to Wolfenstein and Doom for PC fps interface. Quake really nailed it. Not much has changed since the good old days.
