Thats true :P. Good companies have to find a balance.

With what alphadragoon has suggested I would go for vanity slots by the way. I would even suggest that you can turn vanity slots on and off for individual people.. Because as I said before -most- will do it to look cool and unique. There will just that group of retards that take advantage of the system and fight Nael in their undies and win (and it is also helpful to visually see what kind of stats they have going, so you could flash it on and off real quick - dont know if the ps3 could load two model sets at once but for the PC I'm sure you could make the visual change pretty seamless with some opacity twitter or something like it).

Then if you want people to see that you have Darklight on... just don't have a vanity item on.

    Genius!

But I certainly don't mind vanity slots if they "add" on to existing looks...like ribbons on my tail, a half cloak on my back, a sash across my chest, a chain on my sword...etc
They're taking away belts because it's too hard to combine with other armor....I wouldn't hold out too much hope for those options.

In my mind the upside to vanity slots is it gives all gear much more usefulness in the game. It gives players more things to strive for if they want to. Vanity slots would drive the use and re-use of all content. Currently, you only bother to grind gear that improves character stats. With vanity slots you can grind gear for stats and looks. Which as a lancer would bring a lot of purpose back to things like Mosshorn or Solid Scale Mail, that were outdated pretty much the moment they were added.

The downside is of course development resources, and there's lots of things to do before ARR launches.....

You can only equip swimsuit as undergarment. You can't equip in on the main body piece, so I don't see why would would be able to equip it over actually armor anyway.

But if they want to tank something in a bikini why not? Tifa fought in FF7 with a miniskirt. Celes fought in a bathing suit with a cape.

    Do I care? (I don't)

I have no problem saying I prefer women in skimp clothing over men lol.

But in both cases I find it annoying if the armor is powerful and skimp at the same time.

This thread makes my nose bleed @.@... since beta I have watched different threads on this forum develope and this one is definitely up there on the nose bleed scale...excuse me I now need to see a physician.

But anyway I'm all for vanity as I hate looking at a character with mismatched gear. There's nothing immersive about it. Especially mismatched plate pieces being that they are made in a set. Different style as pieces wouldn't mesh aesthetically or functionally.

I have not seen a single good argument against a vanity system restricted to gear the class can actually use in the first place. In fact it seems to have been conveniently left out of most people's arguments...

You're applying the term "realistic high fantasy" to the wrong aspect of the game. Realistic high fantasy applies to aesthetics in terms of equipment design as well as elements of the world itself. Vanity slots have nothing to do with elements in the world and don't apply to design aesthetics. It simply puts older designs to use instead of letting them be neglected and forgotten. Vanity slots fall under gameplay rather than equipment design.

FFXI had a ton of said designs. Amir being one of the more overlooked sets. Stuff like Corselet was also given a unique model that barely got any use. Let us not forget things like lolLuisant (another nice design gone to waste) and the lv70 JSE.

Way to miss the point. Unique appearances are what made final fantasy characters stand out. Or are you suggesting we become (to steal one of Elexia's constant phrases) boring and generic MMO player characters?

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

I dont have any change on my stance as stated in a few posts ago.

I am against this idea because what is being applied to character stats I feel must also be applied visually. However I can understand some gear designs may look stupid, or stupid in combination - I still feel the gear has the stats and you cant have the stats without wearing the gear.

I am against the system because people will make even more stupid look combinations (specially level 1 gear on level 50+s) - unless SE applied some special restrictions.

I think being able to turn off vanity as a personal option would solve the above against issues - in which case I have no reason to say no to the idea.
