i think maat should be in FFXIV he can be the online icon like how Cid is in about every final fantasy game and he does airship. Will maat could be the person that help you gain levels and fight him for his hat![]()

I would rather fight Hildebrand... I have no respect for Maat at all... it was a cheap fight and I won the first time as DRG. Maybe if the fight was more of a challenge then I would have some sort of respect for Maat but it was not... Though I'm not saying I have more respect for Hildebrand but as I can not fight him yet so I have nothing to go off with him besides the fact the quests with him are funny which is the point of them...
If they want to have a Maat type fight so be it... but at least make it worth it and make it based on what job you are playing... dps should have to do the fight a certain way based on the job same with tank and healer... I would say look at TSW with the gatekeeper fight but even that was pretty easy to do...
Hmmm I'm trying to think of an MMO I have played that actually had something you had to do solo to progress and it was something actually challenging to do... but I can not think of any off the top of my head though I guess when you play as many as I have to tend to forget some now and then... oh well...
Yea or nay it doesn't really matter to me... make it something fun, challenging and worth while...
The cat is bemused =-.-=
I remember everyone talking up the Maat fight and being intimidated doing it for the first time, as a RDM no less. When I beat him I was like "that was it?"
I'm not sure how I feel about Maat or something like it in XIV. Part of me doesn't feel people should have a door in the way of level progression, but the other part realizes it wasn't actually that hard.
No.
If Maat comes back, I will throw this game into an incinerator. There is NO reason a grind should be accompanied by stupid quests that involve heavy RNG - getting papyrus, testimonies, etc. All of that stupid **** can stay with XI.
I wouldn't mind seeing a challenge at one of the level caps although it doesn't necessarily have to be Maat himself. The Hildebrand idea was neat. Not sure who else in the current world would fit the bill.
Would a fair compromise be if access to the fight were simple (unlike FFXI), and merely the fight was the challenge?
Beat Rdm Maat on my third try.
Maat was a fun and rewarding fight. Farming testimonials, however, may suck a fat one.
I'm a XI lover but the Maat fight wasn't fair for all classes. Some classes such as Beastmaster had it easy while others it was very difficult. So I would have to say nay unless they found means to make it equally challenging for all classes. Then again I don't really see any point in having to do the fight for higher level progression.
I think fighting Maat should be for something more important like learning Limit Break techniques or something on those lines.
So many people think "it will be exactly like XI, and we'll have to do all the quests again." XIV is already drastically different in that we don't need to wait a full earth day between fight attempts.
From what I gather, the OP's suggestion is just for a one-on-one test for each job. I'd like to see quests where you have to deal with NPCs. WHMs would keep the NPC party alive, PLD would protect a specific NPC, WAR would take on many enemies, DRG would engage in a duel, and BRD would maybe pick off specific enemies. Not sure I have any creative ideas for MNK or BLM, but it seems to me it might remind everyone of each class/job's intended purpose. Maybe an extended dungeon sequence, rather than a simple arena fight. But if they just add Maat, I guess I'm OK with that.
I don't know if I'd go as far as saying that the fight was unfair. The fight was designed to test your skill at the job you were fighting him on. Sure, some jobs had it easier than others, but each job had their own way of beating the fight. I've done it on Paladin which I felt was pretty easy. I've also done it on RDM which was touted at the time to be the hardest of all the jobs. There's a little bit of RNG with RDM due to resists and such, but the abilities are at your disposal to win the fight without much issue. You may just had to have done some unconventional things to win it, but that's what the fight is all about; knowing your job.
