We will have to stay on our old worlds (with a new server structure, but same community and such).
Because of this our/your ls members don't have to select a world at all.
Only new characters can be made on any (old and new) world.

That means all those characters already existent just stay as they are. And if you have friends who want to start playing FFXIV with ARR release then tell them to create their characters on your old world, too.

We'll have to wait some more time (after release) till we can transfer to other servers. And then we'll already know which worlds were created, and we can tell the destination server to everyone ingame.
You are wrong on this. Currently we have 10 servers. They will be split up between JP, NA and EU. When ARR is released, you will be able to pick between any of those 10 servers. Not sure how this will be done (during character creating or through a NPC).
Also when ARR is released, there will be (say 3) new servers created. These servers will only be for new characters for now. At a later date (not mentioned yet) you will be able to transfer to these new servers but not until they are established.
When a new character is created they will be able to select from any of the 10 previous servers or from the 3 (guessing) new servers.

There's a thread somewhere with a DEV that commented on this.

No, you are wrong on this.

Based on the last server merge experience, SE are not foolish enough to allow server communities to be split up through a "pick your server" system. We are expecting to stay with our existing communities unless SE makes an articulated move to the contrary, which it is getting a little late for. Server transfer systems are not expected until after launch.

The remainder of your post is not in contradiction with Jun's.

Before we finalize details for current players wishing to transfer, we'll need to consider how we'd want to handle returning players. We'll be looking at the options with regard to the Beta Test conditions.

Some of you have been asking about the bullet point we mentioned during the FINAL FANTASY 25th Anniversary Event Special Talk Session about “improving the amount of freedom of world transfers” -- this meant that we will be setting up a world transfer service similar to FFXI.

    Hopefully that clears that up!

Also, for current players, it will be possible to create a new character on the new worlds. However, existing players will not be able to move to these new worlds for a certain period of time.

Granted they did not come straight out and "clear things up" as they hoped. But the underlined quote tells me that there will be an initial server transfer at launch. But after that initial transfer, you will have to wait until they set up the transfer similar to FFXI transfer system.
I mean they are doing this to improve the latency between NA/EU and JP datacenters. So you are telling me that they are doing this and if my server (Excalibur) is one of the JP servers, that I will have to 'deal' with it until something is implemented at a later date? The credit I give them is on a short leash but they wouldn't make this huge move to improve the response times unless they allowed people to move their characters in order to benefit from the change.
