Ishtar will not be openn on launch but should eventually open up. (See Yoshi's newest letter)
That's a pretty good description of the market ward experience! XDI get your point tho, we just go to this alley, talk to something invisible and magically appear in a dark and dingy place with no recollection of how we got there, characterless people staring at you and the loud steps of foot movement, talking to the door, you wake up in the middle of a city, like it was a dream...
I also hope that areas such as wards, grand company halls, etc are actually part of the cities in 2.0 rather than areas that you have to magically warp to. It's fine if we have to use instances for the market streets, but I'd like them to actually feel connected to the city itself. As for the grand company hall, it just needs to have its own building in the city.
I don't remember them saying they weren't done. We were simply being shown the gridania area in the videos since that was like, the most hated area and they wanted to show us what theyve done to it.
The rest, I think they want to leave it up to suprise as to what they now look like. I mean, it would be silly to only have one starting city ready, even for beta.

I thought they weren't re-doing the cities except for Gridania? Didn't they say it would take almost another year to do them? Or were they talking about Ala Mhigo and Ishgard?

I dislike zones within a zone greatly. Specially for small things that you'd think would be placed in the current zone. Every time I look down the markets I think about just running -into- it and hearing traders, seeing bustling crowds, spice and armors, but no just zone into a silly enclosed hallway.
Things gather better scale when its actually to that scale, not "big ass building" = two room GC head quarters. Or the other way around. And they gather better immersion when a loading screen doesnt have to pop to do benign tasks.

I'd like the wards to be a place you can actually go to, and they can make you teleport to each ward or row, but the mercantile house being in the wide open area.
Grand Companies, as large of a role they have in the game, should have an HQ that you can walk to as well.
Path of the Twelve should have their own building, too.
Airships can be open world too.
Just give us less menus to navigate overall.
I really hope airships are no longer cutscenes!
No you're right. I'm pretty sure they said the cities would mostly be the same. I'm sure they're changing the market wards though.
