I hope that option is available soon after launch because I want to play on Masamune with new friends with my 1.0 character. :S
Pretty pwease!
Yes. I mean like the awful system that exists now that they promised to fix because it's 2012 not 2002.
If that's the case they've done everything but do a clear job explaining it. I assumed the matter was settled weeks ago, but this post seems almost purposefully ambiguous... What you've described could be correct, and I hope it is, but this statement that the community rep made in this thread can be left open to interpretation...

There is a dev post around here somewhere stating that it will be an option. It will happen in a similar manner to the server merge transfers; basically based on availability.
Considering my experience with the server merge was a whole lot of fail that doesn't reassure. But since servers will now be located in the proper regions maybe it will alleviate the problems we saw then.
I really hope so. Because teasing us with the option to move without the server you want to move become available is very, very frustrating.

But then you can't blame your poor game play on lag anymore =p
All kidding aside, it will be nice to play on regional servers. I wonder what the new scapegoat will be now because it's never the players fault he died to an eruption..
Since the populations are fairly mixed now, I think spots will open up at a faster rate than they did for the merge. JP players are not going to want to play on US servers just as much as US players are not going to want to play on JP servers. There will be some folks who want to stay for various reasons if their server ends up being in a region that is not their own, but I think they will be in the minority.Considering my experience with the server merge was a whole lot of fail that doesn't reassure. I wont move to an EU server, I'll go to a NA server even being EU, EU servers are normally pure fail, i experienced that in Aion and in Runes of Magic, dont want the same shiz to happen on a FF, because FF's are too special for me, i dont want a failure to happen again, specially in ARR.Since the populations are fairly mixed now, I think spots will open up at a faster rate than they did for the merge. I remember a post from Bayohne stating that current players will have the ability to choose a different server at 2.0's launch, just not ones designated for new characters only. It'd only make sense that they'd have regional servers available for current players to transfer to.
I really don't know why this topic is such a big issue. It's obvious they don't want people with max level characters joining a new server and taking advantage of their skills to control the markets.
As for the new servers themselves, the economy will work itself out just fine. Crafting and gathering leves will still remain probably, so people will level their crafts and gathering skills and introduce new items into their economy at the rate that a brand new server normally would. I'm sure once SE looks at the data of the server and can verify that the character levels are of an average to support the economy and can allow current players with maxed out characters to come to these worlds, that's when world transfers will open up to them.
and I'm sure other players will do the same, but that certainly won't be the case for everyone.I wont move to an EU server, I'll go to a NA server even being EU, EU servers are normally pure fail, i experienced that in Aion and in Runes of Magic, dont want the same shiz to happen on a FF, because FF's are too special for me, i dont want a failure to happen again, specially in ARR.
Yeah but the point is, if you had a choice between spending 500 hours on your server now to get a relic weapon
or 20 hours on another server
you wouldn't choose the 20 hour server?
I mean it happened in FFXI with camping HNMs and giant linkshells migrated servers so they would have a better chance or claiming nidhogg and such. I know this for sure because a really annoyingly rude shell moved to kujata and pissed off the entire server.
